: Sluice Pics
Curtis 08-01-2002, 10:50 PM Well, my rear coils and links work GREAT. Went to the 'con this last weekend and had some fun. The only real carnage was a twisted front driveline. It twisted like a piece of taffy, and it was made from 2"x.120 wall. Oh well. Bad part was having to drive out in two wheel drive and get snatched out of about 4 stuck spots by a Jeep
BTW-I also fried my winch motor
But, here's a couple of pics:
Second day, on the way out, I decided to run the box backward and do the crack line.
First day going up was no prob except slipping on the rock covered in oil by Rogguy's roll the night before

http://home.earthlink.net/~curtismm/rubicon2002/sluice005.jpg BTW(notice ho damn slim I am getting. I've gone from 279 to 248 in 4 months!!!! Eat less and do more. Simple math says less calories taken in than needed means extra calories must be found in fat. It works
Curtis 08-01-2002, 10:54 PM Oh, and finally, two of our dogs.
Amadou doing the little sluice http://home.earthlink.net/~curtismm/rubicon2002/sluice003.jpg. I think she needs some detroits to make it easier.
See Check out Buddy. He made it all the way to the top. He's fully locked

desertCJ 08-01-2002, 11:02 PM Nice rig...looks like your suspension turned out sweet! Double triangulated is the way to go;) I hate driveline problems:rolleyes: I"ve seen to many ruin good trips.
Old Scout 08-01-2002, 11:05 PM You ran the Box during JJ?
Curtis 08-01-2002, 11:22 PM Crackline = denied. Broke before it was done :(
OS, yeah I ran it Sunday night (just up and out Toy Rock though), Monday with some guys from On The Edge 4x4 from San Diego (nice bunch of guys!!), and Tuesday morning on the way out with John (waterdog) who owns the white CJ that helped me out.
The Jerk 08-01-2002, 11:31 PM looking good curtis, cant wait to get mine up there again soon to redem my open front follies! jiMMy
CHOKEu 08-02-2002, 12:56 AM Sweet tractor!:D I like it!
moveaside 08-02-2002, 05:30 AM Oh the humanity towed by a jeep:flipoff2: Could've been worse it could have been a Rubicon and not a CJ(Just kidding). Nice rig the pics are sweet and hope nobody rolls again due to slick things on the rocks like dogshit.
convertiyota 08-02-2002, 06:14 AM Awesome pictures. Rig looks good.
rockbiter 08-02-2002, 07:09 AM oh man,, wish i was there...damn daydreaming.,..back to work
convertiyota 08-02-2002, 07:36 AM Which coils are you running??
onetoncv 08-02-2002, 08:54 AM HOPE it was not my driveline -:D Jess
toykid 08-02-2002, 09:08 AM CURTIS, i saw your rig when you were on your way to the 'con.i think it was when i was getting off the freeway in camron park. i have the red Early Bronco that was on the trailer that was being towed by the white super duty. sounds like you had a blast. i'm surprised you made it through the sluice durring the jamboree.
morpheus 08-02-2002, 09:57 AM nice shorts Curtis :D
- jack
Curtis 08-02-2002, 12:18 PM Thanks for the kudos everyone. The pics did turn out good, and these are the sized down ones. They were taken with our new Olympus D-520 Zoom digital camera. It's awesome and well worth the $$$ we spent on it. The original pics are 1600x1200
convertiyota, the coils are 4 inch TJ coils. I made my own upper cups and bought the lower cups/perch (one actually broke the welds though so I am going to reweld it). They are great springs though.
Jess, it wasn't one of your shafts. I just can't afford to get shafts made for me so I always make my own. Never broke one of my welds on anything including the shafts. This one just twisted until it snapped, and it was .120 wall
http://home.earthlink.net/~curtismm/rubicon2002/shaft.jpg
toykid, yeah I remember seeing you. It sucked ASS we had to go through Georgetown due to the fire.
Camo, I keep trying to get it fully.
Jack, yeah I love the shorts myself :flipoff2:
FULLSIZE 08-02-2002, 12:40 PM glad to hear john had to use the TOW TRUCK! :flipoff2: pics look good curtis.:D
H8monday 08-02-2002, 12:47 PM I saw you as you were going in, just before Gatekeeper.
I was teaching my neices how to drive the rocks, by letting them drive my rig, back and forth through Gatekeeper.
Your rig looks great. Glad it worked well,...except for the driveline.

jk..wassap Jeff, how you been?
You know what was funny? The girls had been watching some of my videos and had seen many pics of the rig, and they were really excited to get out and drive it. So when we were getting ready to head back home, Ashley,(12 yrs old), walks up to me and says,(seriously)"Uncle Jeff,...when are we gonna roll it upside down"? ...Damn Kids, what do they know anyway?
I think the experience had a big impact on the girls though, because as they were leaving the driveway, to drive back up to Oregon, I heard them both yell out the window "GET IT!".
climbermike 08-02-2002, 06:21 PM Curtis, Dude, you still gotta lose more :flipoff2:
Great rig man. Hope you didn't have to rub out the jeep guy so he wouldn't talk :flipoff2: :D
desertCJ 08-02-2002, 06:28 PM leaving the driveway, to drive back up to Oregon, I heard them both yell out the window "GET IT!".

morpheus 08-02-2002, 07:58 PM >This one just twisted until it snapped, and it was .120 wall
I'm cheap too curtis, been thinking of modifying one with a piece of schedule 80 pipe ... plenty thick wall'd ...
- jack
waterdog 08-02-2002, 10:18 PM Hey curtis, you told them about the onesthat i pulled your tractor over, But you didn't say anything about when i had to PUSH your plow over the rocks.:D It was still alot of fun. by the way, NICE PICS. next time get some of the tow rig. (and not the one hooked to your trailer:flipoff2: )

Obviously you can't tell now, but I have a feeling you tapped it and put just enough week spot to start the twist.
I don't know what is uglier though... The Scout or the shorts. :flipoff2: :D :flipoff2:
Curtis 08-03-2002, 12:42 PM Jeff, I didn't realize that was you until after we went through the Keeper. I keep forgetting you painted that beast yellow and look for a white Jeep with netting on the back
Brian, John's Heep did great. I drove it a little to get him from the lilly lake to Spider and thought it drove like a dream compared to my welded front with 39.5's :D Tell him how hard it was for me to admit to that, John.
Josh, yeah I figure it was banged and just went boom. I've got a crap load of 2x0.250" wall DOM left over so I'll just make the new one from that. My links took a HUGE beating and just stayed nice and straight. And, you're just jealous of the shorts :D :flipoff2:
peeJ, will get pics in a few minutes.
Curtis 08-03-2002, 02:21 PM Here's some pics of my links (yeah they are ruff still cause I didn't bother to clean things up until I knew if they worked). Let me know and I'll get other angles if you want.

I used 2x.250 DOM for the links. They took a HUGE beating and didn't bend. On the bottom links, I used Bronco radius arm extensions welded into the DOM on the crossmember end and Wrangler shackle bushings on the other. The top links have the Wrangler bushings on the frame end, and they come together into a grade 8 1 inch bolt, which goes into the verticle 1" heim on top of the axle.

Scoutaholic 08-05-2002, 04:56 PM Nice pics Curtis. :) I'm always glad to see someone give a old scout a work out.:D
BTW I use .025 wall on my front shaft and so far so good. Don't bother trying to ballance it.
