Ok I might sound retarded but what is so good about spline count? If you have a 31 spline shaft and a 35 spline shaft that are the same diameter then what makes the 35 spline unit better? I don't get it and have never heard it explained. Thanks very much, Phil <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">

if the diameter is the same, you'd have more surface area "biting" with more splines, equaling a strongr connection between shaft/carrier-----hth brad

Most of the time with less splines the splines themselves are larger to make up for the lack of surface area but when you make the splines larger you cut deeper into the shaft. The cross section of deeper splines is then smaller then the one with more splines that arnt as deep. Does this help or do I make no sense?

It's a combination of the above two posts.
