well is it just me?
This are currie axles, THEY put the bearings on.
I saw it last night, the rear driver tire was sticking out 1-2 inches past the backing plate.
Pulled the axle and there it was the retainer came off, (the little thing you put on after the bearing) and only the flange and bearing were holding it on (scary)
I droped it off at my friends place this morning for him to put a new bearing and retainer on it.
So how can i make this not happen again or was it just a fluke?
I sersoly dought i can tack weld that little guy in.................can I?

your saying the 4 nuts were gone that hold the flange on?

nope.

the axle retainer i speak of, if the one that you have to press on after you press on the bearing.
It was that 4 bolt flange that was the only thing holding it on

I've heard of putting a quick small tack weld to hold it in. Your right, it's not good. I would check the axle very carefully, it might be undersize. Those thing's just don't come off for no reason.

I think maybe it was not pressed on fully, but then i have been running it for like 5 years with no problems.
I guess the only thing i can do it put it on again and watch it

You know the real answer is a full floater.:D But mic that axle very careful, something isn't right. Like Fearme said I bet the axle is undersized alittle.

what size are your retainers? my stock shafts had 3/8-1/2" wide retainers, but my aftermarket shafts came with bearings and retainers allready pressed on. and the retainers were 1" wide.

LOL full floater on a 9 inch IMO is a waste

It had a rather small retainer, currie called it "heavy dudty" maybe 1 inch wide

I got some Fedral mougal ones, the retainer on this was about 3.5 inchs wide

I found what happened too, the retainer was pressed on crooked, witch wore the retainer a little and never got a full grab on the axle.
just wierd how it took 5 years for it to fail, i guess the 38's helped it out
