Heard of a locking differential that uses an electric magnet to lock. It's an interesting idea. Supposedly, the electromagnet is in the differential housing with only two wires coming out - no motors, no compressors or air lines.
Anybody heard of this?

Not familar with that one, but I think somebody's working on a superconducting locker, was it Curie, or...?

Ever look under an FJ80 with electric lockers? I think it's the same principle and comes from the factory. I know, I have one (or two actually, front AND rear). :D

i know you have them but they have more than 2 wires and they dont use a electromagnet. it just uses a electric motor and a fork to engage and disengage the locker.

Gee I wonder if the metal shavings in the case are going to stick to the locker and its moving parts when its activated?:rolleyes:Maybe if the carrier explodes or an axleshafts shears the locker will collect the debris.

But they're still cool. :cool2: And the fact that they come from Toyota makes them even cooler. :D
I wasn't sure how they worked exactly, so it's like an electric OX locker? Ingenious.
oh tehy are bad ass as hell, i was gonna put one in the front of mine but i ran out of funds.and yes it is basicly a electric OX
