I have always wanted an expedition rig, they seem the most practical, but i live an hour or so away from the rubicon and all my buddies seem to like the rocks.
What is a guy to do?
Any thoughts on a good suspension compromise?

get some decnt leaves, still drives well on the street/dirt roads and should be plenty capable on the rocks.

if you have leafs. leave them in. get some new ones from someone. get some nice shocks, and it will ride like a caddy.
i installed waggy springs up front on my toyota and ford f150 springs in the back. it drove like a caddy on everything.

All Pro offroad and Marlin sell extreme sytems for about 2 grand that will have you tearing up the rubicon. If you go with a cheap system, you'll sit tall, but you won't have shit for flex and you'll be stuffing tires in your wheel wells.
There are lots of leafs from other rigs that can be made to work well (see above posts), but they require research, fab skills and cruising junk yards.
Most important tho is to double your transfer case for crawl gears or you'll fry a clutch in no time in the rocks.
It's up to you and your skills which way you go with suspension. Do the research and do it right the first time and you'll save money in the end, not having to do it over.
Good luck!
