Instead of using the needle bearing pilot bushing, whats another alternative to that? The input shaft i'm using is too big for the one I have now, and i've heard somewhere that you can make your own from bronze or something.

Bronze has worked well for a long time, any decent parts store should be able to find one that will work, if it's something real oddball check with advance adaptors and other swap companies, there are also some new nylon/kevlar composite bushings, applications may be limited however.

I'm pretty sure it needs to be made out of oil-impregnated bronze(Oilite), not just straight brass or bronze. I could be wrong, but that's what I make mine from. Its been a long time since I've bought one. The needle bearings suck.

The needle ones to blow indeed. I've always had trouble with them.

Roger that. I made a couple to adapt input shafts..McMaster Carr sells the rod stock in various diameters.
