I want to add a high mount center stoplight on my horse trailer. I'm using a seven wire RV plug. Light trucks and auto use the same lights for both turn and stop lights. Can I tap into my trailer brakes and use that to trigger my high mount center stoplight, so that it only has tail light and stop functions?

Just tap into one of your running light wires and the brake wire on the same side of the trailer and run it up. That's all I did for mine...

I would think that using the trailer brake power you would end up with a light that was dim under light braking and bright under heavy braking. They sell a converter designed for towing cars with separate brake and turn signals, you should be able to use one to do what you want, there also used to be something similar for the third brake light on truck toppers.

Yes you can, I have done it and had no problems. I am running LED lights so the amp draw is not an issue. I think you would be ok with regular lights too.

to make wiring easier and not a problem and would also get a bit more attention than a 3rd brake light would be to set up the 3rd light to flash tap into the turn signal line on each side with rectifier diodes (think one way valve) use this to feed an electronic flasher relay or get a fixture with an itegral flash relay.

you will get the center bulb flashing whenver brake lights are applied or either turn signal is activated. In either case the driver behind you needs to have thier attention caught for the protection of your horses.

I had my center marker lights on my flatbed rigged up as a 3rd brake light. It was a LED light bar. When you hit the brakes it would light up bright , but was not effected by tuning indicators, because it was wired into the brakes. Only problem I had was when the I parked the truck, I got a surge from the brake controler that would make the light flash like a security light until the brake controler was unplugged or turned it self off:shaking:
