I am looking at rebuilding my differentials. The Haynes manual that I have does not even come close to explaining how to take on this job. Does anyone have some information or know where I can get information on how to rebuild the units. I would hate to do it wrong and waste the money on bearing and such. Any information is greatly appreciated.

At the minimum, you should have the factory manuals. The Haynes is very vague as they probably know you should be taking this to a pro with the right tools. Not that a home wrencher can't do it, but it's rare. By the time you buy all the tools and a press, paying a shop to do it right the first time is usually cheaper.

That being said, I've always wanted to try it. I have access to all the tools required, just haven't needed to do it yet. I've done a few LockRites, and I've completely disassembled a mini-truck diff, but it's still in the bucket where I tossed the parts.

Used diffs are so cheap that I would replace them instead of rebuilding them, that is, unless you run aftermarket gear ratios...4.56, 4.88's .....

If you have stock 4.11's, you can usually get them from $75-$100 each....
