: Second Gen (84-88) Toyota Pickup Model
PAToyota 09-16-2008, 11:23 AM Asked this in the "Post Your Crawlers" thread, but does anyone know of a second gen Toyota pickup (84-88) or first gen 4Runner (84-89) model of any sort?
There are first gen pickups and third gen pickup / second gen 4Runners available, but nada that I have found for the square wheelwell type. I've looked a bit in the aftermarket shells, but I'm not sure if I am missing something somewhere.
Would prefer a 1/24 or 1/25 scale model, but would consider just about anything - well, larger than a Matchbox...
jalbrecht42 09-16-2008, 07:01 PM One that I remember (late 80's-early 90's vintage) was the Kyosho Big Brute. It was a 1/10th scale if I remember right.
Found this on google images...

Probably hard to find a spare body for one but you never know.... Ebay has one for $500!
sloppy12 09-17-2008, 12:11 AM if you want 1/24 I am pretty sure aoshima made a hilux from the mid 80's ..
if you want around 1/12 scale radio shack had one..

should be able to find them on ebay
PAToyota 09-17-2008, 11:09 AM Ok, since nobody seems to understand the "generations" of Toyota pickups - one of these:
http://z.about.com/d/4wheeldrive/1/0/C/R/1/JesseM_CA_88ToyPU_1RR.jpg
Squared out wheelwells instead of the rounded ones of the earlier eighties ('79 to '83) and later ones ('89+).
Standard cab, extended cab, or '84-'89 4Runner doesn't matter.
The Big Brute sort of has the right look, but isn't detailed enough.
sloppy12 09-17-2008, 11:41 AM oo you should have said you want a blue one from the start.. :flipoff2:
aoshima made that body style, I know I have seen one before I could be wrong on aoshima, or it could be long discontinued and impossible to find..
PAToyota 09-17-2008, 12:17 PM oo you should have said you want a blue one from the start.. :flipoff2:
Smartass... :flipoff2:
Have to check on Aoshima.
nosduj 09-17-2008, 03:09 PM go to www.rccrawler.com and search for toyota body, one of the vendors there is making them.
smewhtguy 09-17-2008, 06:11 PM If I can find a 85- 89 runner body I am going to by an ax10.
PAToyota 09-19-2008, 07:30 AM Hmmm... Searched what I could on the RCCrawler site with Google. But even then kept running into "you need to sign up" when I'd try to follow links.
Still not finding much of anything except that there are even more third gens and first gens out there than I previously realized.
TrikeKid 09-19-2008, 02:44 PM Unless you build it, there isn't a detailed 2nd gen truck body out there.
This guy is building a 1st Gen runner out of a Tamiya hilux body. There is a serious amount of talent going on here.

As far as I know, Aoshima never made a 2nd gen either, unless sloppy is referring to a 2nd gen Runner. IF they had made one, I would have found one and bought it when I was building a 1/24 scale rig.
PAToyota 09-19-2008, 03:45 PM Yeah, from the searching I've done I was pretty sure that none of the main mfgs had made one - but wasn't sure if anyone was making aftermarket bodies in small runs that I had missed.
Here is a guy who did a 4Runner out of a first gen pickup: http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126772
Did a pretty nice job on the shell. Might have to follow the guy on the link you posted to see how his comes together. Although, after getting the body right he should do resin casts from it. There seems to be enough of a market for it.
HighToy 09-26-2008, 03:00 PM holy crap those builds are awesome. Can't wait to see the final product on the square fendered 4runner.
Lil' lucifer 11-02-2008, 03:26 PM here ya go. found a guy in canada that had some.

Those aren't SECOND generation Toyotas! We know 1st Gens are easy to find.

Thanks - seems everyone wants to point to first or third gen to "help" me out...
smewhtguy 11-03-2008, 05:32 PM Its sucks I have searched my ass off and Came up with nothing also.
PAToyota 11-04-2008, 08:31 AM I'm thinking that if one of those guys building the second gen cabs would pop a mold when he has it finished he'd have a ready market for them.
NluvwithXLR8ing 11-15-2008, 08:48 AM This guy started with a 1st gen body and turned it into a 4runner. Same process could be used for a pickup.
Hope that helps?

PAToyota 11-15-2008, 10:18 AM If you'll pay attention to previous posts, there are two other threads posted that did just that.
jalbrecht42 12-07-2008, 02:20 PM This is another modified bruiser/mountaineer/hilux (1st gen) into a 2nd gen. Doesn't really help the OP in his search, but is another example of how to make a 2nd gen out of something else. After reading this, I just have to say WOW.

Ain't that the truth!
Unfortunately, it never seems like you have enough time to do the things you want to...
what about a 1/18 scale 4runner( some type of metal material )? I was told it wasn't FULLY detailed to look like a true 4runner but thats what it was labeled as.....I can get some pics in a few days if you PM me a email address.... Its my brothers, so I gotta ask him hopw much he wants for it...
PM me if interested so I can get some pics.. In Sacramento....
PAToyota 12-09-2008, 12:11 PM Thanks, but looking for something fairly accurate.
I'd have to check it out for sure...Thats just what he said....I can make sure....Will get back

This thread ^^^^ is worth checking out. I was just reading through it and he decided to use the plastic/styrene body to make metal panels (out of aluminum roasting pans and duct tape  )
