Does anybody have a good source for a 1-wire alternator...good price...good quality? I'm tired of trying to figure out my charging system,,,just gonna put the 1-wire in!

do you still have the stock motor? jtoutfitters.com

or you can get a regular gm alt and make a spacer for teh braket and it will work fine. either way you go you bypass the voltage regulator used with stock cruiser wireing. jiMMy

My, that's one colorful alternator... Do you think they come in mud brown, to match my current color scheme?

No Brown.

They have:
Chrome
Yellow
Black
Blue
Orange
Purple
Red
White

Just don't wire the output through the Toyota harness. Run your charge wire direct to the battery. I would use 10ga for up to 70 amp, and 8 ga for up to 100 amp

Standard GM alternator with built in regulator (72? to 86 or so) BUT, the "one wire" setup is a custom regulator. You could buy one from a pic-a-part, but you would still have to buy a regulator to put into it.

I paid $30 for a GM 100 amp from an 87 Burb, had to hook up the main wire to the battery, and one little wire to the regulator connector (little wire runs fron accy fuse to "idiot light" then to regulator) The older style as shown in pic would need main battery wire, switched wire (like idiot light feed) and a short wire from battery stud on alt to the regulator if you didn't put in the custon regulator

Sucker in mine ran solid at 14 volts during my 30 minute cam break-in run this week.

Looking at my puny 63amp 10si, I have to wonder...

The P/O just made a short jumper from the charging stud (8 gauge to the battery and the factory 12 gauge hooked to it) to one of the terminals on the top, I'm assuming it's the ignition switch terminal.

When I start my junk, all I have to do is blip the throttle past 1000 rpm, and it starts charging. What's the big deal with the way this factory alt. was converted to 1-wire?

And yes, once it starts charging, it won't stop, even down to 500rpm. (i.e., it doesn't go back idle..it's still trying to charge)

I bought the Powder Coat Black from Summit...$100 Bucks delivered to my door...used 8 Gauge wire...voltmeter now stays at a constant 14 volts!

COOL!
