: the right leaf spring?
4x4man 08-03-2002, 07:15 AM ive been pondering on this for weeks. i have to get rid of the stock springs. but i dont know what i want to try. some say yjs,,some say cjs,,,some say toyoya springs. keep in mind im running a 4.3. i need a spring that will keep the axle from wraping. any suggestions?

No springs made that will prevent axle wrap, havent you been reading? You'll wrap any spring you put on if you dont use an anti-wrap device, do a search :flipoff2:
mud-magnet 08-03-2002, 08:43 AM if i were you i'd go yjs for sure............ i have cj7's all around now, but the rear cj7 such shit............ but the front cjs i got up front are really nice........ i got a complete set of yjs now and i'm keeping the cj7 front springs up front cause they work very well for what i want........ i'v never had yjs all around but i'm putting yjs in the rear after i do my V6 swap(won't fit in my garage with the yj's bolted under.....:D.......
4x4man 08-03-2002, 09:06 AM well if i go yj,anwser me this,,,do i use the front yjs on the front of the zuki,,and the rear yjs on the rear of the zuki?
mud-magnet 08-03-2002, 01:01 PM they say its beter to use rear(5 pack) yj's all around but i think the front yjs in front will be fine......... rockrat has front(4pack) in the rear and rear(5pack) in front i think....... but it should work good either way
4x4man 08-03-2002, 01:48 PM are they both the same length? front yjs and rear yjs?

Yup. Not too sure, but you may want a YJ leaf pack with a couple more leafs in it (5 or 6 pack) up front due to that heavy engine. I have 5-leaf pack YJ's front and rear and they are awesome (lotsa axle wrap, though). ~Steve

XJ's have almost zero wrap, and there longer than a YJ by about 5" with an off set center pin.
4x4man 08-04-2002, 12:20 PM what im thinking about doing is just ordering a 2in lift for a yj and go from there.,,or would the stock springs be better?
mud-magnet 08-04-2002, 01:03 PM fawk no.............. stock yjs will clear 35"s easy with a spoa......... just use stock yjs.........unless your a mud only guy and want the biggest tires posible and don't care about susp.

"the rear cj7 such shit............"
why, exactly are the rears bad?
"but the front cjs i got up front are really nice........"
same question- what makes the fronts nice, but the rears bad?
does it have anything to do with axle wrap, or your particular application etc?
just curious, because i was thinking of swapping my stock rear springs up front, and putting cj's in the rear. but don't know should i do front cj's in the rear, or rear cj's? :)
mud-magnet 08-04-2002, 04:17 PM its because there so soft....... there horable for wheel hop, and axle wrap is pretty bad too...... but they began to sag after only a month, the spoa really fawkes them up........ i'd go with cj7 front springs....... the cj rears are not worth shit, and also theres no arch to them....... the front is alot high even when i just put them in......
UZI 9mm 08-04-2002, 11:09 PM ahhh!
i kinda figured on the potential wrap problem, but because i have a good trac. bar i thought it would be ok.
but i didn't think of sag being that bad.
cheers, thanks Mike:D
mud-magnet 08-05-2002, 07:52 AM its just that they wore out the first time i had them out......... and i wasn't on any rock at all, it was a mud run....... i didn't feel them hop, or wrap at all and i only got stuck once....... and now the front is up with 11" lift(including 2" body) and the rear is a flat spring at 9" lift........ theres no arch to the rears at all now....... i think its just the SPOA that kills em....

Shawn_C 08-06-2002, 10:00 AM Here is some food for thought. You could run your rears upfront and YJ's in the rear that is a very good set-up.
For CJ's
You could run CJ fronts all the way around they are a 2" wide spring. The CJ rears are 2.5"wide just like the YJ's and are supposed to be 2" shorter then YJ's. I run Rears upfront with CJ fronts in the rear and they flex out awesome. Off-road.com did a story on mounting CJ fronts in the front and it worked out well for them.
Here is two poser picks, I broke my birf before the wife could get the camera out.

Yup thats what I got or should I say had just got back from the last trip it gonna make this year can you say Fox Coil overs
38 tsl dual sami cases toy axles and 5:71 I have gotta alot of work to do and yea if leafs are what you want YJ's are thew cats ass
ROCKILLER 08-06-2002, 07:04 PM how about lifted yota springs? anyone ever tried it? I was running 2.5 lift yj's all around but I went to a yota spring in the front. I added on leaf from the yj pack but I plan on another because the springs are still a bit to soft and I need a bit more lift.

The pinion will rotate up about 3/4".
Shrock 08-06-2002, 08:36 PM AT 5" longer than YJ's, can the the XJ's fit a std Sami, i.e. not a tube buggy? I'm guessing you'd have to lengthen the wheelbase and fab up new spring hangers and shackle mounts...?
Lziffle73 08-07-2002, 01:47 PM I was looking at xj springs the other day and I didn't notice any noticeable offset in the centering pin. Are there specific years that these were used or am I jus tupid???

3/4" is FA, thanks fatkid, can u tell me why theyre are so "wrap-friendly" ?
4x4man 08-07-2002, 03:58 PM i still dont have a clue what to do.how much longer are yjs than zuki springs? even so i still cant find any used springs around here. where do yall get your yjs from?

YJ's are approx. 46" eye to eye, stock fronts are approx. 37" eye to eye.

Just hit the jeep boards, and ask for them I got my cj's that way and they were sold to me for just the cost of shipping.
