Ok I have been looking to put a diesel in my CJ for some time now and have been doing a lot of research and different types of diesels and what will work. I ran across this sit:

Note: all email links on this site above do not work have tried asking them directly.

Looks like everything fits nice and tight. I have just a few questions for you guys of endless knowledge or opinions.

First what type of Volvo engine I am not knowledgeable on them and have no clue. I have been cruising the internet to try and find a match no luck so far. maybe I am looking in the wrong places.

Second How in the hell do you think they kept the transmission and bellhousing together? As you can see the bolt holes match to nothing.

That particular engine is a 2.4 liter built by Volkswagen.

It would not be like having a V8. And I mean, downshifting, and slowing down on significant hills while driving on-road. Might have trouble getting enough wheelspeed for mud - depending on tire size.

I will be putting together a 2.4 liter diesel (Mercedes 240D with a turbo added) Waggy soon. BUT, I have been driving the 240D around with a trailer on it to get used to how it is going to behave. This will be a small-tire parts chaser and winter beater. The car makes 30 MPG, I expect the waggy to get near 25 MPG.

If you are going to have to spend money to buy an engine, get a Cummins 3.9.

SRSLY

I concur, VW 2.4l I-6 D24 used by Volvo and a few others. Passanger car motor used in the Volvo 240 and maybe some others. There's also a turbo version D24T, but I can't imagine either flavor being that great in an off-road vehicle that is going to see any highway miles. You could get great fuel economy though. Seems like I read about Ford bellhousings being used with those motors, but don't hold me too it. But Ford and Volvo are kissing cousins. Check out Sweedspeed.com (http://Swedespeed.com/), Volvospeed.com (http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php), or Brickboard.com (http://www.brickboard.com/). Someone there will know all you ever wanted to know about what can be/has been done with that particular motor. I've got a '95 850 GLT and have found a lot of helpful info and friendly folks at the above mentioned forums. Good luck.
