: Saiga 223.
usmcdoc14 09-20-2008, 03:40 PM Got one. Now I have to figure what to do with it.
1) un-fuck it to pistol grip yada yada evil black features.
NEXT
Convert to a cheaper/better magazine :D
Galil?
AK-101?
other AK 5.56?
AR-15?
Pick one, lets figure it out.
Loveday 09-20-2008, 03:52 PM 101.
I like the Orlites with the high tech 3/8" galvanized pipe bullet guide.
usmcdoc14 09-20-2008, 04:12 PM 101.
I like the Orlites with the high tech 3/8" galvanized pipe bullet guide.
I am also trying to keep it so the mags are cheap. know who has those?
Loveday 09-20-2008, 05:21 PM I haven't seen them in a while, but I haven't been looking. The last I bought were from a pawn shop in Texas that was on gunbroker. $12.00 a piece NIW.
If you get some, be careful trimming the "gussets" on the sides. If you take your time, you can perfectly eliminate all wobble.
The Weigers are really nice and fit well. No wobble. AIM had some cheap, and Palmetto State bought the entire lot and raised the price about 30%.
Vermin 09-20-2008, 06:40 PM C'mon Doc - don't be afraid of a little challenge - how many AR mags you got laying around. Just saying :D
misterfubar 09-20-2008, 06:42 PM I'd go AR mags...
If I've got a footlocker full of them I can't even begin to imagine how many you have laying around.

I got rid of like 98% of my aluminum AR mags besides my Brownells ones  mostly I have Magpuls and a small pile of steel HK's
Looking at it it would not be hard. just afraid of it looking retarded
Loveday 09-20-2008, 08:44 PM Those friggin' Galil adapters have gone out of sight, but it doesn't look like it would be too terribly difficult to mock up a magwell extension. To use the AR mags, though, without modifying the mags, you'd have to grind/mill the hell out of the front trunnion, including grinding off a significant portion of rear rivet in the front trunnion.
aloharover 09-21-2008, 08:26 AM So where was he buying his Saigas from?
You find out or not :flipoff2:
usmcdoc14 09-21-2008, 08:34 AM So where was he buying his Saigas from?
You find out or not :flipoff2:
read the "hampton roads gun show" thread :flipoff2:
usmcdoc14 09-21-2008, 02:19 PM ok, issues.
A ar mag will fit and making a slide in/lock in adapter would be strait forward. It would be a clone of the ones out there but made of steel sheet.
The issue is the AR magazine will HAVE to be notched at the nose on both sides (I can leave the very front) in order to clear the locking lugs on the trunnion. Some people have ground those down some  but I am not fucking retarded
so should I do it?
modified AR magazines that will still fit in a AR but working with a Saiga or something else?
Alex123456 09-21-2008, 02:24 PM modified AR magazines that will still fit in a AR but working with a Saiga
That sounds pretty cool, practical too
usmcdoc14 09-21-2008, 05:06 PM well its converted to pistol grip. The Tapco "normal" stock is actualy quite well made and a good "clone" of a plain black stock.
I picked one at the gun show for half price cause the metal butpad had rust spots
no pics till I make it all black :flipoff2:
I may just say fuck it and keep the Saiga forend
Aron82 09-22-2008, 08:12 AM I would keep the Saiga forend, they work just fine. I don't see the problem of using the 30 rnd mags built for the Saiga .223 They are pricy, but they work flawlessly. I have heard you can use the Weigers if you add a feedramp, but they are a specialty mag also and expensive. Even the Ak74 mags are way up in price.
An AR mag conversion would look terrible and I have had more toruble with AR mags than any other mag type. How many mags do you realistically need for this rifle.
usmcdoc14 09-22-2008, 08:38 AM An AR mag conversion would look terrible and I have had more toruble with AR mags than any other mag type.
Its not going to be a "conversion" it will be an "adapter". The rifle will NOT be modified for any specific magazine, just the other way around.
If you are having mag problems with AR's you need to be choosing better mags.
How many mags do you realistically need for this rifle.
6-10.
every rifle I have has at LEAST 6 magazines for it.
Aron82 09-22-2008, 09:01 AM If you are having mag problems with AR's you need to be choosing better mags..
Obviously, They were USGI with green folowers. I have never had a problem with even the most ratty looking and abused AK mags. Just look at the way the feedlips are reinforced on AK and H&K mags.
I have heard that you can use AK-74 mags, but they will jam if you load them all the way. A feed ramp has to be added as well with these mags.

Try Brownells version of the AR mags or even magpul's P-mags. Niether have given me ANY problems
I plan on a feed ramp no matter what, even if I keep it using stock ones. That gap is kinda retarded. :shaking:
It pisses me the fuck off that 223 AK mags have gotten stupid rare and pricey :mad3: WTF I could have gotten bulgy 223 waffle mags for like $10 each just last year
aloharover 09-22-2008, 01:56 PM 6-10.

See my solution is so much simpler.
20 FAL mags.
Every rifle takes FAl mags

US made front sight base with 24mm threads.
it would solve a BUNCH of shit
TheRedHorseman 09-26-2008, 07:48 PM That company is Hesse/Vulcan/Blackthorne/etc...
A bunch of douchebags, but they do have a lot of things available nowhere else. I'd say go for it at $25, just don't buy a complete firearm from them.
That Valmet style FSB is effing pimp, too bad it's so damn pricey.
EDIT: and I love the tactical daisy BB pistol tactically wielded by the tactically gas masked tactical dude.

mine wasn't painted under the plate they put on the bottom of the receiver
pretty sure they intend for these things to be converted.. if I hadn't taken that plate off the damn thing would have rusted through
usmcdoc14 10-05-2008, 03:51 PM finished till I make the AR magazine adapter.

Loveday 10-05-2008, 04:37 PM Looks good, Gil.
Did you use one of those "adapters" for the PG? What type of handguard? And post up some mag pics.

nope, its an ERGO AK grip, handguard is a US make AK-74 clone.
usmcdoc14 12-28-2008, 01:33 PM hmmmm....what is this?
usmcdoc14 12-28-2008, 01:42 PM Oh yes. The begining of an AR mag adapter :D
There is NO WAY IN FUCK I am going to spend $100 for a nylon adapter (plastic mag well  come awn) when I can half ass hack one out of scrap aluminum.
I will detail this build/mod here unless you think I should start a separate thread.

Damnit, I thought the adapter they are about to release was steel or at least aluminum, but I just checked and your right, its plastic :( .

Red Jacket also has one and its metal, for what its worth
SonoraBob 01-13-2009, 10:45 PM FYI on the "nylon" adapters. I received the following email a couple of days ago:
"MSA will be making some changes to production. When we originally started this endeavor we planned on making the adapters out of Xenoy polymer. However, due to issues that have arisen regarding production tooling, we had to make a change in our strategy. Effective immediately, we are going to switch over to 6061 milled aluminum adapters. This will be a great benefit to existing customers and future customers, as we are now able to create one-offs at request, as well as expand over into other rifle platforms faster. I am sure a lot of questions are coming up right now about your existing order. I hope the following will help clear up some things:
* All buyers will automatically be switched to the aluminum alloy at no additional charge.
* All persons who paid an upgrade charge to aluminum will have it refunded as well.
* For those who already purchased the aluminum alloys from the website we are refunding the difference to the original $109.00 1st run price.
* Buyers also have the option of cancelling their order at which time they will be refunded in full.
* Monday we will be restructuring our pricing to reflect this change in production."

LiLBucket 08-19-2009, 07:11 AM What came of that adapter Doc?
I've got a trade offer for a Saiga .223 and really not sure if I NEED another rifle. I WANT one (i think)
Also, what are these going for these days (unconverted)? I saw them on Pete's House of Fun, but says 'out of stock' or whatever. That price right I'm assuming?
aloharover 08-19-2009, 08:54 AM 350ish.
I think the only reason it says out of stock is because noone will buy it so I threw it on gub broker.

gotcha...
I just don't know if I want it or not. I guess I could convert it and resell it for some profit if I don't get attached to it in some way...hmm...

LiLBucket 02-04-2011, 08:30 AM What was involved in the conversion of the hanguards and gas tube etc?
What'd you end up using for the front sight base to thread it?
Annnnnnnd as always, what're are people seeing these at? A 20" model for $400 with scope mount and 30rnd Surefire mag?? decent?
