Ya'll can bust my chops as much as you want as long as you help me find the issue as to why my wife's jeep stalls at low speeds...

91 YJ
2.5L / standard tranny
Fairly much completely stock other than the 30 inch tires and the replacement radio...

Here's the issue... Last year the damn thing started to stall when she would slow down (like coming up on a stop sign). It would stall going down the damn driveway! When it stalls, it might start back up immediately, and it might not. Sometimes you would have to wait for 20 minutes before it wouod start again, sometimes the wait was a couple of days.

I have done the needed replacement of the cap, rotor, plugs, and I even changed the coil. Most of this was due anyhow...

The codes the computer is throwing is 12, 33, 15 and 55.

ETA - I have noticed that when the jeep dies, if I push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and try to start it, about 95% of the time it will start. It sounds as if it has a serious lope to it, but it starts.

12, 33, and 55 have always been there as I don't have AC.

The code 15 is throwing me for a loop. I even changed out the VSS on the x-fer case and it comes back.

Any ideas? It has gotten so bad that my wife has been driving MY jeep...

I was hoping the day crew on the weekdays could/would have some suggestions...

But maybe not... This is the Non-Hardcore section...:D

Injected or carborated? Google your codes.

I'm thinking MAP, or VSS.

Does the speedo work right?

The Variable Speed Sensor (speedo gear thing on the outside of your t-case) is tied to the MAP sensor via PCM.

It died and wouldn't start again this morning in the driveway... I ditched it and took the truck to work.

Injected...

No need to google the codes, I have a factory manual.

15 is no longer showing up, I now have 22...

Fuel pressure is fine, just got done checking it. 37PSI when not running, about 39PSI when running...

VSS has been replaced a few months ago when that code was thrown...

Speedo seems to work just fine (when it is running...)

What's the likelihood of the brains going south?

No body mentioned the CPS? Check that.

could be
but you will want to check a few things first
check the battery, if it is under charged do to being sulfated the lower voltage has a tendency to throw off the modules and couse it to run like shit
also just check the wire harness for a lose connection or corrosion in the terminals
its a jeep they rust everywhere

I had the same problem a few years back. It turned out that the wires from the CPS had cracked from the heat from the exhaust, and were shorting. Replaced/rerouted the wires (not the CPS itself) and problem solved.

This was my first thought also, so it's been replaced...

The wires look good, but I'll re-inspect them tonight... Just in case, you know...
