hey everybody

buddy of mine bought a bronco for about 200 bucks and built from there. its an 82 9 inch rear, 44 front, and 302 and 38s. first thing he did was pull the 302 out and take it to a machine shop and have it ported, heads blue printed, bored, etc. now it makes pretty good power, and runs great. hes also got a carb from holley i believe that was recommended for offroad use.

well any time he gets on any big hill it dies. i know this is fairly normal for a carbed motor, but some of my jeep buds are also carbed and have no problems on the same hills with stock carbs.

any ideas where to start?

Make sure he has enough fuel pressure and fuel volume to keep it running.

Make sure it is jetted correctly for the altitude/motor, make sure the floats are set right and make sure the idle air adjustments are correctly adjusted. Make sure the powervalve is good. If you can turn the idle adjustment screws on the side of the metering block all the way in and it still runs, then the powervalve is blown or the floats are stuck or not adjusted correctly. Gotta have it right. I have one on my Blazer jetted for sea level and run it at Fordyce and Rubicon (6,000 feet above sea level) with no stalling issues..
