: Righthand drive
drsmash 09-22-2008, 02:08 PM So I take it that you have now clicked on this thread out of curiosity. Well What say you jeep guys where is the best place to MAYBE find a cj7 right hand postal jeep. I have looked and now I would like some help from my pirate brothers. I have found the steering box remanufactured in canada.Your suggestions would be helpful.
Jeepermat 09-22-2008, 08:21 PM I thought those were DJ's, I didnt think they ever made a CJ right hand drive.
My local post office had a few for sale a while back, I think they started at $700, were really high milage, and really crappy.
drsmash 09-22-2008, 09:26 PM Ya good info thanx, I will be stripping out the crap need to convert a cj7 to rhd
cj8scrambld 09-23-2008, 04:40 AM It'll be easier ...and less $$....to just start with a CJ7...or hell for a better frame a YJ and convert it to RHD. The Dj's were 2wd and had crappy frames and nothing for an engine.

I am starting with a CJ7. I want the dash, pedals and other crap for the swap.
oldjeep 09-23-2008, 08:31 AM Never heard of a right hand CJ7, but they did make right hand drive CJ8's for the postal service. The parts are out there but won't be easy to find.
crashhawk 09-23-2008, 09:16 AM The "hardcoreness" of this thread is amazing.

I seem to remember that the postal service used CJ-8`s extensively through out Alaska. I know there were a few variations, but I never did hear of a CJ-7 variant. There was a guy on E-Bay that was always selling Postal rigs from up North, not sure if he is still on there. might be worth a try.

I wouldn't say extensively... there were less than 250 total built.

cj8scrambld 09-23-2008, 05:53 PM Get a mail jeep and swap parts.
I hope you meant take parts OFF the mail Jeep and APPLY to a CJ7 Jeep. Because to swap all the required parts ONTO a DJ would be a waste of time.
stepfor 09-24-2008, 10:25 AM Not a CJ but...

TechJeeper 09-24-2008, 10:46 AM There are companies that make new dashes for cj7's out of flat plate like copperhead fab.

You could just flip it over to have a righthand drive dash!?

Holy shit that's brilliant...
jhyat 09-24-2008, 11:48 AM There were a couple at the Dayton PO, they got retired. I think one was a YJ. 4wd and all.
There is a lady that used to carry mail for the Wellington PO that had two postal jeeps, neither of which was being used, and are parked out in TRE currently.
Check with the PO in carson or dayton and ask a carrier where they get the RH drive rigs. They had quite a few YJ's in the area, and currently there is a couple TJs, but the YJ would work better for what you stated.

There are a couple beaters at either the Minden or G-Ville offices as well.

jeeplt1 09-24-2008, 07:10 PM yeah id just get a custom dash if you cant make it yourself. pick up that steering box you found or go full hydro. make the tie rod and drag link yourself or order from a place like parts mike. pedals seem simple enough to me. they just bolt on
