Anyone have their FTOYS insured? Either to drive on the street, or for theft/fire coverage?

If so, who is the company its insured through?

Thanks
Chris

I think youre the only one here who has built a truck out of 42 others, registered and insured it. So how did YOU do it?

More importantly, what did you tell the insurance company to insure that?

i know here in fl, sand rails are insured and street legal so i figure as long as you have a title , liscense plate ,a windshield , safety belts, turn and brake lights you would be ok. you could call around to insurance companies and ask if they would insure your sand rail since its fairly similar...? ive thought about doing that when i build my f toy. essentially all your really modifying is cosmetics and making the vehicle safer (for you anyways...) id hate to see a kia that ran into an f toy!

Mine was insured as a one of the toy donor pickups... Never was inspected but it was insured for road use. I'd be hauled to jail if I drove it on the road and got caught though :(

Now its insured for fire, theft and $1,000,000 offroad liabilty (need a min of $250,000 for driving on our FS Roads.)

Im street legal. Told my insurance guy it was the 83 that I used for a donor and registered it as the same with DMV. Told my ins guy that it was modified for offroading but that it has all the required equipment. Go to CO4x4, there is a link to the CO nexus that gives you the requirements for street legal in CO.

Thought about that one. Trick is, get into an accident, even not your fault and the insurance company is going to have a field day.

Someone hit on it though, where are the guys with rails getting insurance from? Similar to us, started as something else, kind of, but very different now!

I plan to register/insure mine as the 84 that gave up its frame and front axle.

My issue is that the town I live in is so small, that everyone knows everything about everyone else. I happen to know both my insurance agent and DMV people personally. They have been very helpful in helping me get it plated, but the ins agent doesn't think his company will actually cover a 2008 Formula Toyota UTL (official title), so this is why I was asking which company others were using.

Exactly. Yes we have a VIN for an 85 toy truck, on the frame. But obviously a toy truck, and this thing are very different. And IF something should happen, the insurance company is not going to cover it, as they were deceived in what they were covering.

I insured my old buggy by telling them it was a kit car built off a toy truck. I think it was with GMAC.

but if you tell them its a sand rail that has been built off a toyota i dont see what teh difference would be? unless they are nazi's and only like volkswagons?

Mine will be registered as a kit, since the chassis is from a separate company, and the frame is from a donor vehicle. The registration isn't as big a deal as the insurance, since it doesn't have a blue book value in case it is totaled/stolen/fire, etc.

That's what I would think. I havent had the time to look at insurance companies for if they will work with rails or kit cars myself yet.

So Mr. Maveric, find an insurance company that will insure ftoys for what they actually are, and let us know!

I insured my old buggy by telling them it was a kit car built off a toy truck. I think it was with GMAC. They made sure the "frame" was from a manufacturer :D :D

I actually found out (after my rig was stolen, doh!) that Farmer's insurance, and most others for that matter, CAN do it. Problem is most of them won't.

The agent that I'm using (Anthony, Monterey, CA) has me on stated value & modifications. so the way it went was I bought my donor truck, insured it. Every time I purchase something for the truck, he gets a copy of the reciept. I imagine he'll probably want some pictures of it eventually.

I haven't gotten very far but it seems to be working pretty well. It's covering the parts, and that's all I really care about anyway.
