Take a look at the picture below. The distance from the top guard mounting screw to the bottom screw is 3.21"
A non deep throat Milwaukee porta band is hard to come by, chances are its a deep throat.

trkklr77 09-30-2008, 10:23 PM fuck yeah!!!!
the older shallow saws are very very easy to spot, they will ony cut about 1-1/2" deep and end cut only 1" L for any bigger diam.
edit: since you are making these plates how about the hook to turn it into a chop/cut off aswell?

I have spent an honest 40 hours designing, drawing, and prototyping a bolt on kit for the Portabands, that would allow you to use it as a chop saw and or a band saw. However there is just too much wander in the blade, it makes a great cut one time, then wonders the next time.
I will not sell a kit unless it can out perform the typical abrassive chop saw in a straight line cut
So what I am saying is, don't hold your breath waiting for me to create a kit.

Is the unit creating that blade wander, or your base? I assume since you have spent alot of time designing it and your other product looks top notch, that it's the unit.. But I just can't see the blade moving that much.
Anyway, if you do create one, I'm sure you'll have a billion orders.

tomorrow I'll weld up the sq tube too, I definitely think it'll work better 90 degrees in the vice that way...
mad_boi 10-07-2008, 07:12 PM I ordered up one of these and I don't even have a porta-band:laughing: I am bidding on one on Ebay though...fingers crossed.
No more cutting brackets with an angle grinder for me, It'll be nice to zip some out with this set-up.

My blade is also close to the notch, and is a relatively new saw.... I did use the square tube to allow mounting the table in the vise 90 degrees from the bent lip....makes it way more accessible and easy to use.
On the thought of building a tripod type stand....why not, cool idea!!

Thanks Rainen, I will have to agree with you.
This weekend I modified a aftermarket ZJ bumper to fit on a newer Ford Ranger, its dam near a perfect fit directly out of the box, however I did have to modify the brackets that attach to the frame, did I reach for the Plasma :shaking:, I went for the Port band attached to the mounting plate. I didn't have to clean the brackets up, chip off any slag, no kerf and cool to the touch.:grinpimp:
I sold the first batch of mounting plates and have since made a few tweaks to the original design.

rgivenspi 11-17-2008, 07:50 PM I can't say enough cool things about this - great price, incredibly useful. I already have a 4x6 horizontal bandsaw that converts to vertical, but that's a pain. I just keep my Milwaukee saw bolted to this plate and put it in the vice - great for working small pieces, making tabs when you run out, etc.
thanks!
coilcj 11-20-2008, 04:10 PM Will this work on the Dewalt portaband?
Swag Off Road 11-20-2008, 10:49 PM Will this work on the Dewalt portaband?
Yes it will,
I recently make a few design changes so this plate can be used for either the Dewalt or the Milwaukee deep throat portabands.
coilcj 11-24-2008, 07:10 AM I have only had two request to make this plate fit a Dewalt.
If it would sell I would be willing to make a small production run, other than CoilCJ is there any others takers?
Looks like I am solo out there, if you end up getting interest down the road shoot me a PM. Thanks

Mike check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4-6JKMEhb8 It shows a few plates that I cut out of 3/8" and 3/16" plate.
Portabands are great for cutting small brackets, tube, and do a great job at demolition work.
79Cherokee 12-14-2008, 05:09 PM Quick shipping, a tool that will be very useful instead of one that collects dust.
lumberjack1986 12-20-2008, 11:29 PM FWIW, my Dewalt has enough of a lip to be secure in a vice to be used vertically.
Mike, here's something I did this evening. The arch is 4"x.5" flat bar, the cheek plates were cut from 6"x.25" flat bar. The cheek plates were cut using the saw vertically. I cut the 4" flat bar both ways (thickness and width). The 6" flat bar was too wide for a straight cut across the width, but it wasn't any trouble to start on the edge and finish across the width.
On the right of the axle you can see 2 4"x1"x.5" pieces I cut.

Great setup and tested it on some 1/2 and 1/4" plate, and some .120 DOM this morning, Cuts perfect, I'll never use my old chopsaw again!

Rainen 04-06-2009, 08:27 PM This is a great product. I bought it a while back it works great but I needed my vice back!!! So I built a wall bracket for it. Before I had the mounting plate my porta band just collected dust. Now I actually use it all the time.
Pics of my wall mount for it based on your mounting plate. The saw and mouting plate is attached to the wall stand with 2 bolts, so its still easily removable.
Great product!
Swag Off Road 04-09-2009, 01:58 PM Nice wall mounted portaband.
I did a bit of shopping around and found a new fab shop to do the laser cutting. I have returned the savings on to you guys. The Portaband mounting plate is now $39.99. not $44.99 and ships USPS flat rate shipping. I have plenty in stock.

Swag Off Road 05-29-2009, 01:55 AM I came out with a new product that attaches to the Portaband mounting plate.
For thoes of you who have already purchased a gen 2 mounting plates from me, you will need to drill three holes on each side to addapt these plates. These plates are used as drill templetes, instructions will be provided on hole locations.
Portaband bench mount and or wall mount side mounting plates.
These plates can be used in many different configurations, wall mounted and or table mounted in 4 different height positions.
$39.99 for both side plates.
$74.99 If the Portaband mounting plate and side mounting plates are purchased at the same time, and as an added bonus they can be shipped in the same box to save on shipping.

ccarruth 07-01-2009, 02:54 PM Are there any plans to make the mount with the relief cut for the blade in the front and narrower? I want to mount my Dewalt to the wall permanently and don't want to have to take it down every time I need to change the blade. Or can you sell me a mount with just the holes in it and no relief cut ? I know it's a long shot but thought I'd ask. Thanks for the time and effort that it takes to dream up and fab such great products.

Corey,
The .5" wide slot for the band saw blade is there to accommodate both the Milwaukee and the Dewalt. The blade locations are different depending upon which brand you have, hence the .5" wide slot.
If you mount your Portaband to the wall, you would have to make it attach with one mounting bracket, this way you would be able to slide on the blade around the single mounting bracket. This is not possible the version I sell which is two plates, one on each side of the Portaband mounting plate.
Are you guys really changing the blade that much? I use mine every day I'm in the shop and as long as I don't cut heat hardened steel the blades last for months.
ccarruth 07-02-2009, 01:06 AM I cut a good bit of tool steel that I use in knife and gun applications as well as input/output shafts and axle shafts that I cut down for hotrods. The last big band saw I had was over-rated and over-priced. The blades themselves would eat you alive. The Dewalt is much cheaper to use considering the frequent blade changes. I'll have to fab one up to work with a single sided arm to mount to the wall. I just thought I ask you in case you had others ask about it. If you'd like I can send you the specs when I done if it's something you think you'd like to offer as an alternate to what you already have? Thanks

I took a trip to the local HF and checked out their Portabands.... not a chance this plate will work with that saw. I wouldn't trust the strength of the sheet metal frame to mount their saw vertically.

I took my plate to Home Depot and the mounting plate I sell will need a new hole to mount up this saw, along with longer screws. I know for a fact that if your ordering this mounting plate then your more than capable of handling this modification needed.

I cut 2 1/2 thick 1018 steel on my Porter-Cable port-a-band to make solid steel spring perches just to proove it could be done at home, INCLUDING the radius for the axle tube. Someone wanted to know HOW you would cut them at home, I said with a port-a-band. I did it in about 45 mins for two pearches and posted pics on CK5.com
reedwesd 08-11-2009, 07:46 PM I just got my mount in and the build quality as awesome. The only problem is I can’t get to work with my saw (think it is my fault). If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thanks

reedwesd 08-12-2009, 08:26 PM Thanks for the help :flipoff2: Just kidding. After some figuring and a little mod to my saw I got the plate to work. All I can say is why didn’t I buy one of these sooner.

Troy
reedwesd 08-18-2009, 10:52 PM Here is a picture of the mod I had to do. I was able to use the original holes but I had to drill a hole in my band saw. Once I done this it worked great.

The 6225 is a shallow version of the Portaband, you would have to perform the modification done in the previous post by reedwesd for this mounting plate to fit you saw.

NIB-98TJ 02-11-2010, 07:46 PM Which type Milwaukee saw works best with your mounting plates, variable speed or fixed speed saw? I'm thinking the variable speed triger control would be hard to run/control at slower speeds.
Thanks,
NIB
Swag Off Road 02-11-2010, 08:37 PM With the variable speed Milwaukee's there is a threaded knob built into the trigger. Threading the knob to the right or left will increase or decrease the speed of the blade............the trigger is not sensitive to how far down you press the trigger like on your drill.
The speed is determined by the adjustment knob, the trigger only turns the saw on or off.

Brandon 02-16-2010, 01:33 PM Flat rate shipping on this gem $9.80 to anywhere you like.
Did flat rate go up
I just made an order but shipping was more than that. Not much though ;)
:smokin:
EDIT: Doh, just noticed you posted the $10.50 rate above, might wanna delete your first shipping post..
Brandon 02-16-2010, 01:41 PM You know, I was thinking it would be cool if you put a dado groove in the plate so you could use a square to run material through the saw. Just a thought.:D
I like that die, just an 1/8" wide groove would be great!
Brandon 02-19-2010, 07:42 PM got mine today, thx..
Brandon 03-10-2010, 09:09 PM Alright, quick review here..
Gotta admit when I ordered it I really didn't think that much of it and wondered when I would use it..
The day it got here I was fabbing some shock hoops, pulled out my trusty portaband and was using it, didn't even both with the plate for a while and then figured why not..
The mounting sucks, but there is no other option really - my deep throater has the dinky dinky mounting bolts and you just can't get them tight enough to keep it from twisting (hey, maybe I need a new portaband hmmm).
The one thing I don't like about my portaband is that I can never cut straight but with it in the mount I cut my tube lengthwise and the line is straight! So flipping cool..
Probably one of the coolest things is the foot pedal. I have no idea if it is the same one that is sold on the site and spec'd from HF but it was just one I have leftover from some cheap HF tool. It didn't even have a 3 prong input so I pulled out one of my adapters and plugged it in. I zip died the "throttle" on full tilt and eased on the pedal - sweet! It's flipping cool, just made my most used tool even better!
I'll post some cool pictures eventually (attaching one of the part I cut straight, then ground to fit the radius) but hey, thumbs up..
Swag Off Road 03-25-2010, 11:33 AM Today I am headed out to Easter Jeep Safari. I will be at the Crawl Magazine sponsored event on Tuesday March 30th at area BFE doing an imprompt vendor display.
I will be driving my Jeep the 1100 miles straight through loaded down like the Clampits.
I have packed my Jeep with two of everything I currently sell on my website. If you want to avoid shipping costs swing on by.
If you guys see me, flag me down I will hand out free Swag stickers while in Moab.
Thanks Troy

Surprised to have a second box inside the big one, just for the bag of screws.
Very nice quality, happy customer.
I do have some extra work since my 6225 is older and the mounting locations changed a bit.

Looking at it, looks like this would work in it, just have to drill some holes.

I love my stand for my portaband! Everyone that has seen it says that its a smart idea. if you have a portaband, this is a must have!
Swag Off Road 08-27-2010, 10:55 AM Just released.
Bolt on Portaband miter gauge attachment.
Accepts the industry standard 3/4' x 3/8' miter gauge slide, and can be bolted on the right of left hand side of either Portaband table I sell.
Helps keep your strait cuts strait and your miter cuts repeatable & consistent.
If you purchased a Portaband table from me in the past and your table does not have two mounting holes on the side your will need to drill (2) 3/8" holes, per side.

Toyota_Force 12-01-2011, 07:11 AM Lookin to pick up a porta band right away and get one of these tables. Curious which saw I should get? I know it has to be deep throat but is a dewalt or Milwaukee better? Faster blade speed or slower? Variable speed or fixed? I'll be cutting mostly 1/4 plate and just can't decide what my best option is. Thanks in advance for any help guys.
Swag Off Road 12-01-2011, 08:53 AM I'm a big fan of Milwaukee, if you look at what the professionals use in the field you will see more red than yellow Portabands. With that said the Dewalts have a more ergonomic feel to them.
I have had my Milwaukee for 4 years and use it every day with out any complaints. They are available at Home Depot, and they only sell one variety to make it easy.
Troy
Toyota_Force 12-01-2011, 09:00 AM Ya I'm a bigger fan of the red too lol. Dewalts been going down hill a lot. So blade speed fixed or variable really isn't a big deal? As long as its turning and cutting? Lol
CartsXJ 12-27-2011, 02:12 PM Do you know if your Mounts are compatible with the Milwaukee 0729 Cordless V28™ Portable Band Saw? It looks very similar to the corded version, in every aspect except how it gets its power.
TIA

The V28 is a direct bolt in, however you will need to space the legs of the Portaband table's we sell 1.00" to accommodate room for the battery pack.
Thanks Troy
