does anyone know if any other jeep power steering pumps have a higher output that another?

or one from another company that is pretty much a direct swap?

I've looked around a bit but haven't found anything specific

I'm just looking for a junkyard upgrade for my xj

Well chit, my bad. PSC and AGR are the only ones that come to mind. What kinda set up are you running? Specifically tire size? The stock pump is a decent unit provided you can keep it from leaking. I dont think the fluid capacity is enough to run ram off it (I could be wrong there) but for a standard TR and DL setup you should be ok with 35's maybe 36's or smaller. Do you have an upgreaded steering set-up? Drop pitman arm? What is you primary complaint with the factory pump?

The problem with the TC pump like yours is that they have low flow and low pressure at low speeds. The cure is to replace the pully with a smaller one.
Call PSC for a smaller pully and get a shorter belt at any parts house. They have more applications than listed on their site so call. You can pull a TC pump out of Grands I think and they are suposed to flow better but the problem is still the speed of the pump. Part# PP-2401 is the 4.5" pully that fit my 98 XJ.

West Texas Offroad told me over the phone that they could modify the stock pump for more flow and volume. I didn't ask specifically what they do to it, but sent mine off to them anyways.
The main thing they will do is port the return inside the pump body. Belive it or not the return modification is the key to getting these pumps to flow. They also swap out the controll or bypass valve to one with a higher pressure. The one from an H2, I think is the one they use. The pump basically pumps it's brains out untill the bypass pressure ball and spring is overcome by the pump pressure. This spring is what controlls the pressure. Without the return port modification the extra pressure only generates heat. I wasted hours on home brew porting and spring modifications on a TC pump but it's not as simple as the old CJ style pumps. For 250s buck you can get the pump and pully from PSC and you will have all the steering you will need. I turn 35 Krawlers with 6 psi in them on a locked front end and never wish I had hydro assist.

I'll be using 35s with a durango box and a hydro brake booster

and no ram assist unless I go bigger

my current pump doesn't like parking lots and is workout on the trail

put a P series pump in place of your TC pump...
psc makes an adaper

i made my own adapter bracket out of some flat plate...very easy to make. i made mine so i could run a dual return P pump for my hydroboost brakes.

i later saw the adapter bracket for sale individually for like 40 bucks

can you get the P series pumps off of a vehicle (what would work for a swap if yes), or only new

and what makes it better?(I just find sales links, not info)

and thanks, this is good info

the "P series" pump is the "canned ham" style that saginaw made (makes?) it was/is used on a lot of vehicles.

i did this mod to get the dual return and increase performance for my hydroboost

check out the west texas link above...Matt is a great guy that was very free with his information when i did my mod even tho i did not purchase anything from him

i have lost a lot of the information from when i did mine but this is a good link as well...
