: rear inboarded springs

This Q pertains to my new 4-runner build. I have found that you formula guys have made it a commonplace to inboard your rear springs and others now just coil or link their junk (as I may do in the future) so I have decided to ask here.

What is a common distance to inboard? I have seen that it can vary as little as 2" to as large as 6" in some of the stuff that I have searched but no one distance seems to be constantly repeated.

The other Q is are the shocks mounted then to the inside as usual or are you guys fabbing up some cool stuff to mount them to the outside? (seems like they would get in the way without some fancy fab work involved)

You need to remember that ftoys are a lot lighter than your runner. Inboardign your rear springs is going to cause a significant increase in bodyroll and decrease off camber stability on your 4 runner.

Yes I know. This is somthing that I will take into consideration as I decide to/not to inboard the rears. I figure that if I find a commonplace on somthing that weighs as light as a F-toy it will give me a starting place in a stripped down to the bare bones runner. If I didnt live in the PNW and need a heater I would probibly go for one of those factory 4s.

Ftoy rules allow the rear perches to match the stock front on width.

Narrowing to stock front width is ~11".

As for your runner, I would highly suggest not doing this. You are a lot heavier, even stripped, with a lot higher CG than a tall ftoy.

And as to shock placement...I ran mine to the top of the spring perches and straight up (almost) thru the floor.

I was hoping that I would be able to inboard at least enough to get the hanger to the inside of the frame rail. I want to keep this thing as low as possible and can lose a inch or two if it isnt mounted to the bottom of the frame.

You could french the hangers up into the frame.

I sell these inboard mounts, but they are the max allowed inboard that we can go with the F-toys. I would suggest checking out the ones that Hendrix sells. His are not as far inset probably creating a stronger mount on a heavy rig.
