So I drove up to Medford, Or yesterday to get a hands-on demo of how the new Sync 180 tubing notcher works.

Please note* I have no affiliation with the folks that build this notcher, just happen to hear about it and followed up about it.

This notcher is not avalable for sale yet. It's going to be shown at the Fabtec show in Vegas next month.

Medford Tool says they should be in production soon.

I have little experence with any notcher other than JMR's sweet unit.

The big difference between this notcher and others is that is comes with a bunch of cool accessories that allow a numbskull like myself to compleate complex compound notches in no time.

My first notch was a 60-degree.
From what i know about notchers most will not complete this type of notch very easily.
It took 2 min with the Sync 180.

As you can see the hole saw arm can be reposistioned quite easily to allow you to make a second cut from the other side of the material.

The key feature is the units ability to posistion the hole saw in any posistion from 0 to 180 degrees. Their is a small angle finder tool that lets you simply find the correct angel from the other side.

Here is a shot of the whole unit.
When they become avalable, they will run $699.00 complete with software, and unique tools that make it super easy to use for a novice like myself.

Check out the video of it in use here (http://www.syncnotcher.com/videoarchive.html).

ISn't the price ~$600 though :(

It DOES look like a quality tool though. If I was fabbing with tube frequently, or doing a large amount (tube buggy?) it looks to be worth it.

Yes, this notcher costs more than almost all others, but it's also a case where you get what you pay for. The price is $699.99.
With that you get software (http://syncnotcher.com/calc/index.html) that allows you to quickly figure out how long to make a tube, say as a triangulated spreader bar for a family cage: where to cut the stick of tube, where to notch it and how to set up the notcher to do so.
So if you have little or no experence notching tube, like myself, this notcher teaches you how.

It also has these cool snap collars that make it super simple to locate 90° and 180° from any point on the tube.

It also has a neat tool that helps locate the centerline of any tube size from 3/4" to 2-1/2".

The other cool part i liked was the hole saw collar, so u can get the saws un done easy without a pair of channel locks and flipping the drill in reverse. Holly cringed when he seen me do that.......:D I'm hard on my stuff

neat ideas, about 399$ to expensive for me to spend on a notcher that you have to use a corded drill on

But from what i understand the ones using end mills keep breakin the cutters, and cords aren't that bad....... you just have to keep them untangled so the 'lectricity dont get confused.....:shaking:

Ok started playin with it and the first thing is the top load set up, much easier than wigglin tubing thru the other ones i got. plus it makes a handy vice and a poor mans drill press. Got some pics to down load, and am building a yj cage this weekend with it. So abuse it will get

Looks sweet. To much $$$ for me though. But you get what you pay for. My HF notcher snapped a shaft and I'm notcherless... :(

Yes the way the block is built there is a lil cavity i packed with some grease and i use harveys cutting oil in a squirt can for the holesaws. Cuts smoother and the good holesaws last longer. I've evolved from the generic 99.00 notcher to the jd2 but didnt like some of the features on it. So i ponied up and bought this.

I must be missing something
can't you just use a cut off tool to zip the piece off that is bottoming out in the holesaw and then continue the cut in a good notcher like a NotchMaster?

That's how I do it with my $25 notcher

Yes or i used to break it off with channel locks. But this one also allows me to do larger angles by coming in from the back side. I;m just doing a comparasion, as to i have all three my notchers set up.

$700, but it still doesn't notch a bend.

EDIT: I can make the same 60 degree cut you show in about 2 minutes with a cutoff wheel in my 4 1/2" grinder with a wraparound.

$700, but it still doesn't notch a bend.Hey guys …..new to this forum! First post. Thought I’d share these two videos showing our attempt to notch in a bend. It took some help from a C-clamp to make the tube more secure but is this anything close to what any of you had in mind regarding curved tube notching? If not - would anyone mind sharing a pic of what you would like to see notched?:)

Actually i did was able to clamp the bend for a back bar on my cage, and shimmed the saw up with the spacers and it worked good.

Seems like alot to me for that kinda of money a porta band would seem to be a better investment and u can notch with it too

And isnt this spam I missed the yellow star

...EDIT: I can make the same 60 degree cut you show in about 2 minutes with a cutoff wheel in my 4 1/2" grinder with a wraparound. That's pretty quick alright! However I'm not that skilled with a grinder. So it got me wondering how long it actually takes if I pushed it a bit. - Just under a minute from mounting in vise to dismounting.:)

I'm sure that's no speed record but not bad either.

I bought one and it just landed this morning. I'm rather impressed, its very well built and much heavier than I thought it would be.
