Has anybody modified the rear hanger on their EB so that the shackle hangs down like normal? Pics? Drawbacks?
I want to get rid of the blocks in the back and I'm figuring this is a good way.

A bud of mine flipped his shackles on a Blazer and it worked real well . You will need to build a traction control device as to limit axlewrap ! :flipoff2:

Yeah, I think you're talking about a shackle flip. Did you search?

I've done this but made my own hanger. I don't like the idea of the stock hanger reused flipped upside down. If you have seen it or can visualize it you will see what i mean.
Advantages are you get a cheap lift and can use longer springs.shackle flip (http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/scottsbent70/lst?.dir=/70%27+bronco/shackle+flip&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/)

Is that what it's called, a shackle flip? I searched for shackle conversion and a bunch of other things but came up short. I'll run a search.
As for the home made shackle hanger, looks good. Which springs did you use that are longer? I'd like to run longer ones but don't want to mess around with the front perch, cutting/rewelding the spring pads, etc. Any longer springs out there that are the same width?

I used f150 2.5 side leafs 56in. long (soft but not to soft 5-6in. lift)
Others are broncoII 56in. (to soft for loads 3-4in.lift)
Econoline 54in. ( stiffer than 150's didn't but them on since they were to short for my application)
Dodge durango/mini truck/vans
Those are all the ones I can think of
These all should move the rear axle back between 1-3in.

The F150's sound good but I thought they were 3" wide? What application did you get them off of? Also, how happy are you with the springs?
BTW, sweet ride. I'm digging the full width axles. Do you drive that beast on the street?

The plan is to drive it on the street:D basicly I have $1,000 till its done since setting a date hasn't worked to well.
I like these springs alot better than the bII springs I had on there. I can hold enough weight for camping gear now without the ass hanging low. And they flex pretty good. From watching the suspension work while towing it looks like it'll ride plusher than a caddy.
The 150's I have are 2.5" wide off a early 80's truck. I believe the 2.5 are 60's to 86' trucks. My 87' has the 3"wide springs so I assume they changed over when they went with the new rounder body style.

Sweet man, it's on. That's my next mod!
Did you look into grabbing the front hangers off of something and using them rather than building from scratch?

Nope, never though about that.
