I am rock racing this weekend. I pre-ran the course today.
I need to shift the trans case while traveling to get the best times.
I did it several times today. There is a very short period of gear grinding then it pops in.
Is this OK for a few more times. Probably did it 10 times today. Will probably do it 20 times Saturday.
My only other option is to reduce my top speed on the long stretches by not getting into 1:1 or stop and waste time shifting the T case.
Also I am disengaging the ARB on the fly. (under 20mph) I am sure I should not engage on the fly. What about disengaging?

Can you not get full speed in 2:1?
I'd say disengage should be just fine on the fly.

I had to do the same thing in the KOH race. As far as the ARB goes, you can turn it off any time. If you are in a bind it might not disenguage right away, wut it will eventually. Just dont turn the ARB on when one tire is spinning alot faster than the other. I found that leaving the rear ARB enguaged helps with control when you are trying to peel out.
On the transfer case, shift it just like you would the transmission. rev the motor out, depress the clutch, let the RPM's come down a little, then shift the front t-case into high. You might get a little grind cause there is no syncros, but it wil be fine. the only way this really works is when shifting the front 2.28:1 case into high. Shifting the rear case with a 4.7:1 gear in it will be alot harder.
Toyota transfer cases are strong. go ahead and beat on it a little.

I can get to as fast as the car will go in 5th gear 2.28:1. I feel like the car gets an additional 10mph or more in high range in this long fast section.
