Well hmm, lets think about this one champ...

Thin rod burns nice and ez, if you run thicker rod what do you have to do to make it burn nice? INCREASE THE AMPERAGE! MO POWER!!!

1/4 Is fairly good size sheat, i dont even go that thick...

buy some assorted rods, lost of scrap, and play with the different amperage settings on the lil buzz box. :flipoff2:

Ususally run 3/16 rod on a buzz box. Get your hands on several types of rod. Use 6013 rod for general purpose, 6011 for dirty steel (cuts through rust and crud) and 7018 for "structural" work. Now get some scrap metal (be sure to clean to shiny metal - no grease, no rust) and try different settings for each position: horizontal, vertical uphill, vertical downhill and overhead.

Now get a book and read :flipoff2:

you should get 1/16" or 1/8" rods
they will do anything your buzz box can do
i would like to see a pic of the 1/4" rod
that is fawkin big

you will need around 200 to 250 amps for 1/4" rod. Take it back and get some 3/32". for get about the 6013 just get 6011 and 7018.

i betcha he doesn't have enuf welder to run 3/16" rod
125 amps come on.
and why would he need a 3/16" rod for
he welding on a bull dozer or some thing like that.

OOPS! right! meant to say 3/32". Youch, it been a long time since I picked up a stick welder...

6013 is a good rod to practice with. burns clean and easy, slag comes off quick. THE best rod to begin with.

7018 is best for structural but for newbies is a real bitch.

6011 is the spatter king, noisy and wreckless.

the rest is in a book somewhere...
