the brakes on my 75 f250 4x4 all wheel drum brakes. i put a new master cylinder, new wheel cylinders, new hardware kits and adjusters. i adjusted the brakes up but when i press the pedal they dont stop good at all. if i pump a few times they get better..... but wont stop or even slow down if u just push it once.
would it hurt to take the proportiing valve out and put a t or y block in for the front lines and connect the back directly to that brake master cylinder.
the shoes are still in great shape and the drums have been turned. what can i do to get a better pedal.

It sounds to me like you have air in the system, did you bench bleed the master?

X2 on air in system. also verify good adjustment, esp. on rears.

yes. i bench bled the master cylinder and then bled all 4 wheels starting farthest from the master cylinder. im not new to working on cars. and this is only my secon vehicle with 4 wheel drum brakes. i know what im doing i just cant seem to figure out why i cant get a good pedal on this truck. and the only thing i havent touched is the brake proportioning valve.

Some of the older fords had a prop. valve that needed to have the little stem pulled out slightly in order to properly bled them, at least that is what I have been told, not sure if yours is one of them. How tight do you have the shoes to the drum? I have always tightened the adjuster until I can barely spin the tire by hand, any looser and I never seem to get much pedal.

Def sounds like the shoes need to be adjusted out

i will try adjusting the rear out some more. i have the front to where the drum just touches the shoes. then i turned the adjuster 1 turn on each side.
