I have used expanded metal in the firewall area where the pedals are. My question is, if I put plexiglass in front of the expanded metal do I still have to enclose the engine?

You must have either full coverage all the way across the firewall area with Lexan (not plexiglass), aluminum, steel or the engine enclosed on 4 sides.

The idea is to incapsulate the drivers compartment from the engine compartment.

Safety first in competition

I will add that having the engine enclosed on 4 sides feels safer to me and it will allow better forward vision.
