I've recently picked up a 1975 CJ5 with a 3" spring over lift, 35" tires, AMC 401 (out of a '75 Wagoneer) it has a full roll cage (not installed yet) power brakes (off a 76-86 CJ) new master cylinder, plugs, plug wires, alternator, rotor, and a few other new parts. my plans so far are to put 15" eaton beadlock rims on it, wrap them with MT MTZ 35x12.50 tires, a Rock Krawler bumber with a Warn 8000lb winch. my questions are would it be advisable to replace the spring over lift with a 4" coil over lift, and are Lockers a must have? and if so what brand should i pick up? my intent is to have it set up to be able to play in the mud, sand dunes, and be able to handl anything i try to tackle in Moab ... and any other rock i see in my path that i feel like driving over. Thanks in advance for the Advice.

So who is going to do your 3/4 link suspension?

I'll have it done at a local 4x4 shop. I'd handle it myself if i had the time, but with my job i dont usually have the kind of time i would need to do the instalation.

Is this hardcore? Are lockers really necessary? Is it Tuesday?

i am going to take a stab at this and say you are new to wheeling. keep the SOA, add an aussie locker to the rear [or both], you dont NEED bead locks. but before anyting else, ARMOR. rocker guards, bumpers, tube fenders, tub panel guards, full cage, all the above. what kind of tires do you have now? run them. go wheel some trails and then figure out what you want to do first.

You had me actually looking for the rules for this forum. I missed the offense.
I saw the spot where people should mention vehicle specs but you have to know the starting point before answering.
In my case I was interested to see if his configuration matched the one I'm helping on to see if this thread was going to be of use to me.

A lot of guys will tell you that you need links/coils to do anything, but there are a metric shit-ton of old Jeeps on leaf springs that do just fine. Since you seem to be new, follow the advise above and take it wheeling and see what it'll do before you mess with it. You will not get a CJ-5 to do everything you can find perfectly and still have it resemble a CJ-5. Figure out what you want it to do best and head that direction.

Sound's like it's set up pretty good to me....
Go wheeling, let the rig tell you what it needs next. ;)
