i need to replace mine, and i just need to know if they are all the same for internationals....i have a improved cooling 392 and i know for the 392 there was like 2 or 3 different mounting brackets for the pump and the mounting bracket was different on the 345 that i pulled it off of awhile back when i broke the bracket (should have kept the pump!!!), and i was wondering if the pumps were different also...and if anyone has a part # for the pump that would be great, im guessing napa would carry it....on the west coast do yall have Maine Auto Parts???
thanks for any info

Not the same for all, trucks used a non-Saginaw pump, some years of Scouts are different. Fairly easy to find a pump that will work. Are you looking boneyard or new?

there are two styles of pump as far as I know, the "tear drop" and a round style.....

the internals may be the same, haven't compared them, I think just the res. it defferent.

The rounds were most comon on P/U's, the tear-drop apear to be a scout mostly aplication. The Scout ones are a GM pump, standard old GM unit. I usually ask for a mid-70 GM PU pump, to avoid the IH "stare" :D The only down side it the redurn nipple, most of the "rebuilt" pumps I have gotten have had a serious bend to them, makes them kind of a PITA to use with out straiting it some.

Another option is what I did with my last pump, just just the replcement guts, and swap on your resivour. It was super easy, and got better fittings, and was cheaper. I also did a "pressure" upgrade as well, and I'm happy with the results.

I've seen three bracket styles (I'm sure there are more). The Scout ones depend on whether or not you have a smag bump braket or not. The non smog braket is rather large, and bolts to the head, with a little pocket for the pump. The smog bracket is a chopped down vertion, with a 4-bolt flange on it, lines up with 4-bolt holes on the smog pump brakcet, that bolts to the heads. The one on my t-lette is this huge plate thing that bolts to the head, and put the PS pump up really high. Works good though.

does that help any (or make any sence?? :D)

jdjanda...boneyard or new, uhh just one that works. If you have one that works for cheap, ill take it off of your hands. I need to check napa, or maine auto parts first.

rustoleum, helps...but i need to try and make sense out of all that:flipoff2: I will have to try that.

Just hit the local bone yard. The extra I have is for trail spare, would be more to ship then bone yard rates.

The napa one has a nasty return line bend in it. If I remember, it was basically a U shape bending down. Makes it hard to route the return line when the box is behind the pump. I guess GM's had the box in front of the pump, that's why it's bent. I think I got my rebuilt one from Autozone, and it had a straight return line fitting.

Are you guys talking about the reservouir? I've never bought one with a res, just the pump itself. Which fits in both res's btw

well i am sorry if this has been confusing, i am talking about the reservoir, where you fill it up with fluid, i just called the saginaw a gear box, but i am pretty sure the gearbox itself is fine, i think the reservoir is shot....i thought that pumped flued too since it had a pulley belt on it....well anyway thats what i am talking about the pump that mounts on a bracket that is bolted to the engine. Can't find any scouts at the boneyard either, they put the last one i saw in the press to be shipped off.

i have replaced the lines after they blew off (originals), so i replaced them which was a biotch, and i know it needs to pump the air out, well it's been about two weeks and has sucked down a little bit, but has now stopped. I thought that maybe the line with the metal tips and screws was on backward, but they are two different lengths and don't think that it can be backwards. so i figure its the reservoir with the pulley on it. Does that sound right?? The p/s has worked before and i don't think the gearbox is bad.

The pulley is on the PUMP.... the pump is attached to the reservoir to make an assembly. There are at least two different shaped reservoirs, but I believe the pump is the same.

Please call a Lightline dealer. I know Anything Scout has good used PS PUMPS in their yard.

They are at anythingscout.com or you can get the other vendors info from BINDERBULLETIN.ORG

what you need is the pump/resivoir combo.

either get a used one as Josh suggested, or take your pump to a GOOD local parts house, and have them help you.

There are a couple of styles of resvoiur, the pumps are the same, but there are a couple styles of pulleys, plus you will need a puller to get the pulley off.

If you get a decent guy at the counter, they should be able to hok you up. Probably less than $30 for a whole new res/pump combo.

if the pump is a 1980 unit, you will need to know this, the fittings are metric/o-ring.....

Let's see how nice a Teardrop pump looks after a head-on like that!

That pump is still on the truck, and worked great for 2000 miles with no problems. Now THAT's the kind of "shit" I want on my rig!

I thought I did.... can't find a GOOD one though.

If you have a good eye you can see it here..

Back to the p/s bit.. what makes you think it's dead?

Just what's "wrong" with the steering? Did you run it for very long after you blew the hoses off? (that'll burn 'em up pretty quick) Is it growling? or... ?

snoop dogg
08-06-2002, 09:24 AM
the fact that it was sucking more fluid down with a busted line, then with good lines...to answer your question tsm1mt, i did run it for a while w/o fluid. No, there is no growling there is nothing. I was turning donuts, and the hose blew off, they were shiot anyway, but i can't remember HOW long it was ran w/o fluid, prolly long enough for it to be dead. It did pump alright before the hoses blew off, it could have gone for a swap though. Yes i know i should have just pulled the belt of when there is no fluid in there....not to bright, i know. anyway i think its the pump....you??

EDIT: Sorry for getting off task, i need my ritalin:p

Is your res leaking? if not just get the pump. Looks like this
http://thisdysfunctional.org/mike/Pictures/newagr.jpg
and you can install it in any GM/saginaw res

will that fit right on my reservoir...it should

mike
08-06-2002, 09:35 AM
Just replace the pump itself then. Add the res to the bill and it'll go up quite a bit. like more than double

RustoleumWhite
08-06-2002, 11:14 AM
like mike said, get the pump only and save your self some $$

swapping res's is easy, just takes a couple minutes, just be careful to line all the o-rings up and take the time to clean out the interior of the reservoir while your at it, and clean the magnet. Paint it too, so it looks purdy :D

be sure to take your pump in, make sure you get the right shaft style, and the proper puller for the pulley (the wrong one will SERIOUSLY ruin your day....)
