I have a 4.3 chevy motor to go in 85 runner, has any body had good luck with a w56 trany behind any conversion like this. I also want to keep and run my dual T case, 21 spline input, and AA 4 to 1 gear set.

Superrunner has (or had been) running one behind his 7M-GTE for a little while, and this is also the tranny that I run behind my 5M-GE.

Seems beefy enough - unless you really abuse it I suppose ;-)

The W56 is in the same series as the W58 found behind the 5M, 7M and 2JZ. All motors found in various generations of the Supras. They range in horsepower from 150 to 225.

I think it can handle the 200hp 4.3V6. Just don't drop the clutch. The 4.3V6 develops more torque at a lower rpm than any of the nonturbo Supra motors.

210lb-ft at 4800rpm for the 2JZ
255lb-ft at 2800rpm for the latest 4.3V6 (L35)

hehe, well I wish it were stronger. Blew out the output shaft 2 weeks ago. I have been running it since the 4Runner Jamboree, and have been to moab and various other places.

I am at 400+hp and 400+ft/lbs of torque, and it held it good. It was the consant dropping the hammer at 4,000+rpms that killed the tranny.

So, yes it is "CAN BE" strong enough, but it all depends on how you drive.
