Ran the first annual Gulches Rock Race Scramble on Saturday.
8 rigs showed up to compete. I was the only 4 cylinder and the only rig without air shocks or coil overs.

I had the second fastest time of the day. But, I touched a banner and got a 10 sec. penalty. Ended up with third place, payback of my entry fees, and a few goodies.

The Car held up great. I only broke the fitting that supplies the ram off the front of the steering gear box when I hit a tree. The new DOA racing engine made a huge difference in gear selection, top speed, and overall pull of the car throughout the course. Other than that a very good day of racing.

Note to future F toy rock racers. Remove the steering ram before these events. Your steering will be quicker allowing you to run faster. The TG high Volume pump really made the stock power steering work great without a ram in place.

Thanks,

WEs Harper

Get down!!:D

Was a win possible in the Ftoy? Just curious as i've considered the MOROC rock race series and wondered how the rig would do.

My best time was 4:54 plus the 10sec penalty
The winning time by Chris May was 4:14 not sure if any penalties were added. Bottom line that is smoking fast from a very capable rig and driver. (Full tube chassis with toy skins and a supercharged 3.8? Buick?)
The next closest time was Mike Cole with a time of 4:59. There were areas were I could have went a little more extreme. But, I was in it for fun and did not want to break the car. No, I dont think I can achieve a 4:14 run on this course. Chris can probably do it fairly consistent. His previous lap was 4:15 and the one before that was 5:29. I do think I could get a few more seconds shaved off by letting it all hang out and a few more with no mistakes.

It will be an annual event. I will do it again. Strictly for fun. If I do good thats great. If I do bad and have fun thats great too. The main thing is to not come home with a huge repair bill.
20 people signed up only 9-10 showed up due to poor weather the day before.

Wes put in a real good ride. That motor screams for sure. I was real impressed. I can't wait till we get to Harlan and see it in action some more.

Wes, I have to correct you. You were not the only competitor without coil overs or airshocks. I was in the same boat. Plus, I believe that I was the only vehicle that still had a/c,cruise control, and seat belts for five.:D Sure was fun, wasn't it?

Hey Shawn! Good to hear from you. I got a kick out of the Crawl write up myself. My junk has changed quite a bit since then though. I look forward to riding with you again soon. Post up the next time you're heading up and I'll meet you.:D

I think 508 is gonna be the 2.5 rockwelled rig :smokin:

OK. I'll bite.

I still wanna see a build thread!!!

Move the motor back about 12" so there's room for the big ol' Rockwell chunk to stuff next to the oilpan. 22RE or something bigger?

Negative on the rocks. I bought 508 from my good friend Troy Porter AKA "Trollporter". Im doing all yota parts from my 90 truggy. I guess I need to start a build thread eh?

Ahh ok I just remember Troy mentioning the rocks when he had it. How far did it regress from superpiles build up on it? From what I remember he was really close to being done.

When Troy picked it up it was just the chassis welded to a Yota frame.

Here is a pic.
