ya so one question, I have been searching for tires on M/T Classic II rims (cuz thos kick ass) and found that the Swamper Thornbirds are like 20 buks more than the package with the BFG M/T's...so which one should i go for. I would perfer opinions from people who have owned/own one of these tires.
thanks,
max

Don't waste your time with the thornchickens. Do a search for 'thornbirds' on the gen4x4 section to find out all the evil things about them. If you want a tire more agrgessive than a BFG MT or MTR, but still with somewhat decent road manners, look into radial Swampers (pre SSR).

Buy MT/R's they are the best radials on the market.
As for the Thornbirds, they are the WORST tires on the market.

actually, a search for "suckbirds" may get you more responses...
I have not run T-birds but know one person with them and two who have ditched them. The guy with them runs an EB and the t-birds are 35's. He bought them cheap and grooved the hell out of them and he plans to get by with them for a year-two. The gal who ran them on her 1999 Blazer (31's) hated them on the road, winter and summer. She now runs MFG-MT's in a 32" and loves them. The third was Dan with the Sammi....31's and no weight and he did well with them...however he likes his new Swamper THDs?!? (Whatever those new ones are...) much better...
you buy t-birds and I won't admit knowing you.... :-p
BFG or MTR or Swamper Radial....you'll be happy with all three. IMO, the BFG is the most street-like, the swamper the most aggressive.

I would definatly suggest NOT getting the cornybird!!! They have horrible road manners in all types of wheather and are worse on the trail. I just dont see how super swamper could go SOOOOOOO terible wrong on this tire :(
But on a positive note, my brother has the BFG M/T's and loves them. They are quiet on road and handle like a dream. Offroad they are awesome as well. They are an awesome tire!

I watched a buddy of mine take his Toy Truck thru the Con with Thorn Birds. They did OK on the rocks but he constantly got shown up by everyone else in the club.
Also watched him get stuck in a mud hole as a Cruiser and a few jeeps "Idled" right by him. He ditched those tires promptly afterwards.
They were loud as fawk, and the just plain sucked on the road, off the road.....pretty much anywhere.
I am doing an SAS on my 97 GMC this spring and I plan on running the 35 inch MTR's. I love those tires, and I would be running them on my Cruiser too, but the sidewalls just don't stand up to the Rock as well as the TSL's.
oh yeah, nice sig line!! :D:D:D

Sounds like your mind is pretty much made up with the M/T's, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents. My buddy had T-birds on his Ford for about three months until one day while commuting home from work we began to hear a terrible slapping noise from the front pass. side. When we got home we found that one of the brick sized lugs had literally torn away from the rest of the tire, except for the small part still holding it on. I had to laugh when he broke out the Liquid Nails to try to re-attach it. Needless to say it didn't work. Anyway, the tires are worthless...
