How do they work??

Is this (http://ww2.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=44762) a decent one??

Thanks

I have used that one. You will need at least a 5hp compressior with it. How much of an area are you going to blast? BTW only use clean, washed blasting sand. It is about 4.00 for a 90lb bag.

Do you think this one:

would be any good?? I've got the compressor. I'd mostly be blasting stuff like axles, but could it do a whole body if need be??

I have Harbor Freight's 100 lb. blaster for outside shop use. I would worry with the 20 lb. capacity of having to constantly be filling it up. It does not cost that much more for a larger capacity unit. And as noted by Old Scout, make sure your compressor is up to the task.

You much better off with the pressure feed one from HF than that siphon feed POS. It would take over and hour and a half to blast an axle. You would be better off using a wire cup on a 4" angle grinder.

I've got one of those - $20 at menards. Works for little stuff, but really slow. It took 3 hours to blast a jeep grill with it.

make your own pressure feed sandblaster out of a ( preferrably ) new 20 lb propane tank....... I if it's a used or out of date one make sure you fill it with water before going at it with a holesaw or welder )
all you gotta get is a 2" close nipple for the input and a cap... and a few 1/4" valves and 1/2" tees and hose barbs......take the valve out cut a 2" hole in the "bottom " ( now the top) weld in the fill fitting run a few hoses and Voila! ( get real sand blasting hose or use kickass hydraulic hose 'cause anything else won't be lasting too long...... and the only thing that is really critical is a proper ceramic tip.....

Go with a pressure feed of some sort, I have a siphon feed I made out of the second one you showed and a five gallon bucket. It worked good, just a little slow. Buy the one from HF for $60, and build yourself at least a temporary booth to keep the mess contained and of course a resporator.

While I agree on building your own sandblaster (which is what I did myself)
I disagree with your statement of using
"real sand blasting hose". I've been using
my blaster for over 8 years now, and it's
equipped with a 3/4" red-rubber heat hose
material. Been working fine. I've gone
thru 3 hand-held blasting valves though.
I made mine from an old 20+ gallon air
compressor tank bought at the flea market
for 5 bucks.

The key to successfull blasting is DRY-AIR!
if you're running a 5hp 220 30 gal tank
machine, it will kill it to keep up with
the blaster. And when the compressor starts
gettin hot, the air gets really wet. You'll
end up fighting the damn sand cause it won't
flow.

I now run an 80gal, BIG-5horse 220 2-stage
machine and also run the air thru a refrigerant dryer. It'll go all day long
without any blocking in the blaster..

I recomend the preshure pot for big
jobs but if you are doing body panels
the sifon feed is better,

I would also like to stress the point
that the type of blast media (sand)
makes all the diference.

ps dont use silica sand it is realy bad
on the lungs,
