I have a 20' x 3' 1/4 thick welding bench than gets NASTY and a 4" grinder just don't cut it for cleaning it up

LOL, I even washed them this morning!

I now see it's there. It's no doubt the fault of my hanging around AFI who the first thing he does is rip the guard off. Of course, shortly thereafter, he's complaining that I've camouflaged the first aid kit as a first aid kit!

I used a 7" old ass Black & Decker grinder until I moved to school and discovered 4" grinders were available. It was old enough that it was 95% metal construction and powerful enough it felt like the fist of God in your hands compared to a 4" one.

So put a 7" on it and get the 9" on Monday. I hate little grinders after using big ones.

I know this wasn`t asked, but figured I would throw it out there. They get used every day at work. Found them to be very durable.

For cleaning your table, I highly recommend using these wheels with that grinder.

I would also suggest alternating directions each time you go over your table.

That Hitachi G23MR is no longer what it used to be. They redesigned the housing to make it more "ergo" and removed the bearing from the rear handle in the process. Now the motor shaft turns in a plastic bushing cast into the rear handle housing. It probably wouldn't matter to most guys here but if you want to lean on them for a few hours at a time they don't hold up any more. The side handle on that thing is still the very best in the business though so all is not lost. BTW, even if you don't want to run a 9" hard wheel having the power to really turn a 9" soft pads rules. I'd stick with the big Metabo or the D28499 Dewalt.

I had that same grinder for a while, and it is truly a beast. I liked it a lot, but it tripped breakers in my shop constantly. 20 amp breakers. So as much as I hated to do it, I took it back to Lowes and exchanged it for the 7" DeWalt, which is not nearly as sturdy, but doesn't require me to go reset the breaker every five minutes either.

Either your breaker was worn out or you were leaning on it too hard. That grinder should run just fine on a 20A breaker.

My 9" showed up today. Havn't checked it out yet because I had it shipped to my mothers house.
