: To be fullsize, or not to be fullsize?

I am going dana 60 front dana 60 or 14B rear depending on width decisions. F-150 springs all around soa of course. I am starting to wonder if it is worth the effort of shortening the 60 front. It is easier and cheaper just to outboard the front and run full width. I was planning on running 65" wms-wms axles.

What does everyone think? What are the pros and cons of running at 65" or running full width. Either way I am going to look goofy as hell for a while with 35" tires. -money is a factor.

How much do I have to spend on hummer wheels? Could I run them without interference if I go full width.

I really like the way the jerk is set up- but I am not sure I am ready to commit to full width.

thanks, Caleb

I went full width on mine, 2 main reasons.

1. WAAAAAAAY cheaper to just outboard the front springs and run the stock front axle. I picked up a spare front and rear for free from my neighbor, and using the parts can be found with ease at any junkyard. I outboarded my front springs roughly 1.5" on each side, which still left me an entire spring width further in than the rear (Which I inboarded, so I have the same spring width both front and rear).

2. Width, like any good woman, my cruiser spent more time on it's back than on all fours. ;) And with my set up, I will be much wider, and about 1 to 2 inches lower. I am gonna run the 15/35 swampers I have on there until the wear out, and throw on the set of 38"s that I have access to. MUUUHAHAHA.

my cruiser is still in the building phase. i stayed with full width dana 44 front 12 bolt rear cause the axles are cheap and easy to find at any junk yard, or store. secondly many of the guys i know carry spare parts and it's easier to bum a stock axle than trying to custom cut one on the trail.

I just swapped the 16 splined, pitted axle, raunchy drum, all seals leaking, dumb-ass bought dana 60 for a near perfect 4:10 geared 14ff at the same salvage yard. All it took was a 12 pack of coors! The 14ff is from a very low mileage suburban ambulance. The drums aren't even rusted- that is unheard of around here. These things are like night and day. Dude was trying to tell me he sells them for 500! I took him down to the Raunchy 60 and a 12 pack:D .

Damn, I feel much better now that I don't have to throw a bunch of money at that 60 to try and make it as strong as this 14ff. Only downside to the 14ff is a little more time spent on the grinder.

Well, I'm going FULLSIZE BABY!

Bottom line it's CHEAPER! Less to spend on the rear and the front! Thanks for the heads up on the 14ff from my last post!

I can't believe I just traded sh!t for silver. Never underestimate the power of BEER!

Daniel in the General 4x4 section sells Hummer wheels for $50 each....7" backspacing and http://www.afm4x4.com sells high steer arms that work with the hummer wheels.

Go full width and suck them in with the hummer wheels!

i dont get the rockwell thing...i mean, maybe if you had like 44" boggers with a big block or something....but i think it is overkill for the application shown in that pic...
