Though i would put this in the jeep section. Well i have been having the hardest time finding front axle shafts for a passenger drop wagoneer 44 the years of these axles were for 1974-1979, my friend had a dana/spicer service manual...but wasn't sure on and if they were part #'s for the shafts. Anyway can anyone help me out and know if these shafts are discontinued for OEM stock replacements, i was going to try and order just plane jane stock shafts, but a few people have said that they are discontinued, but they said to not take their word for it. I snapped the inner short and completely split the ujoint in half and twisted the stub ears at tellico two weekends ago!!! Well i thought i was there, when Kendo on the board was really wanting to help me out, but somehow the shafts are different, and then i got a chevy stub shaft used from the junkyard, and they wanted $50 bucks for it, i said to high and that i will give yall $20 for it, well i got turned down and then they wanted a restocking fee, even though i pulled it and it wasn't ordered and there aren't shelfs to restock it on!!!! Didn't pay the fee and got banned from that yard, but they are real rips. It's been frustrating and i need to get some shafts for a tellico run before i go to school on the 17th, and right now i can't get warn shafts in time for the run. Can anyone help me on if dana/spicer carries these shafts anymore, and if so what place is a dealer for dana/spicer, or if anyone has used shafts ill take those, of course for money
thanks

I was in the same bind for a driver's drop long side Waggy shaft, you guessed it, discontinued/obsolete. As an added bonus to the snapped 297x destroying both inner and outer, my inner also snapped off flush with the carrier, causing me to disassemble the whole axle to get the stub out. Interesting enough, the stub was snapped off totally smooth, like it was cut, leaving only the splined end, which is now my t-case shifter knob.

Start hitting the yards, pre '79 waggys are super common. I ended up cutting 1" out of a pre '79 shaft to use in my '81 axle, the overall axle length is the same for driver's drop and passerger drop, but the newer short side is 1" longer and the newer long side is 1" shorter to accomodate the offset in the carrier. Just chop the Chevy shaft and weld it back together, if it's welded right the u-joint should break way before the weld does.

Hmmm....after reading my post even I am confused, but for your short side shaft you could cut down nearly any Dana 44 shaft, except the driver's drop short side, since it is 1" too short. Or if you have extra time and money, you could have a longer shaft resplined.

There's a short side inner w/ stub on the FOR SALE board.
Dutchman will make any length you want from either Spicer or Warn blanks.
