I've got a Lincoln SP175 (Lowe's Department Store Model) that has treated me well over the last few years. I want to start doing aluminum sometime in the near future. Im also cheap.

My first thought was to buy a ready welder, but I don't know anything about them.

Then I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/LINCOLN-MAGNUM-100SG-SPOOLGUN-K2532-1-NEW_W0QQitemZ330274352380QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3 30274352380&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I don't want a ready welder if I have to also buy 2 batteries to run it. Im also not looking to weld aluminum daily, just every so often.

Can I hook something like this to my 175?

It will not work says the guy at lincoln who I got by calling the number at the bottom of the product info link. He says best bet and I asked in another thread is buy K663-2 which is a liner, roll of wire, tip and a roller and run pure argon ... note the thickness :(
