The other day I was cruising thru a Cabellas store and I can't wait until I win the Lotto so I can buy one of everything.

In the mean time I think this would be a fun way to do some target plinking off my deck.

While not black, an original Benjamin/Sheridan .177 pellet gun will serve you well. These days, they're manufactured by Crossman, but they're still a great pellet rifle. Unlike break-action, or similar cocking rifles, you can decide how much velocity you want via the pump handle.

As for the color, get some Duracoat.

Thats the Gamo wisper. it will be "quieter" than normal, shoots .177 pellets and will kill small woodland critters at porch to tree distance. :D
Find the pellets your gun likes and stick with them, avoid "bling" type pellets as most of them suck. Plain pointed and dome ones work fine and kill most anything.

I haven't looked hard at air guns in over 10 years, so I don't know the quality of the guns now days. I will tell you the premium adult air guns in the 80's and 90's were Beeman and RWS.

I have an RWS model 45.
I would buy a model 48 or 52 if I was buying a new one.

I am sure other companies make good ones, but when I was in to air guns big time RWS and Beeman were the only two that made quality adult air rifles.

I squirrel hunted with mine for years and killed many squirrels. Usually more than my friends using a shotgun or 22. I have killed a wild turkey with a shot to the head at about 10 yards. I killed a possum, though it took numerous shots. Countless birds and small varmits (mice, snakes, etc.).

Dad and I sat on the back deck many days shooting starlings along the river bank.
I consider my air rifle the same as a single shot 22. The energy and performance is similar to a 22 short.

I have a nice little break barrel with a scope. I bought it to eradicate pigeons from my shop. Mine is a winchester vary similar to the gamo varmint gun. It will send coons into a tripple lindy out of a tree at close range and conistenly flat fucks birds up at 75 yards:smokin:

I bought a Crosman Storm XT, looks like same barrel and action as the Gamo without the silencer ( most of break open actions look like they come out of the same factory). The scope was a pile of junk, I put a old bushnell 4x on it I had laying around which works just fine. I would opt for $20 tasco over the air rifle scopes crossman sells. I use it off my "deck of death" to control the ground squirrel population close to the house. It's effective range is probably 30-40 yds, I might try some of the new gamo super pellets and see if I can extend the range a little in the spring.

we've been useing 500fps powderless 22lr in our backyard lately.

quiet as hell and kills our rodents.

you guys keep talking about this quiet (SP), less powerful ammo and I am going to have to buy a 22 instead of a bb gun. I just want to be able to shoot in the back yard without he damn sheriff showing up. I have been thinking about just getting a air rifle so I plink super cheap and get to shoot more often and let the wife learn rifles better.
