Would a 31 spline stardard rotation 9" rear axle be strong enough for hard core wheeln. I have found one for my TJ that would bolt right in. Just curious ass to it's strentgh

Thanks

depends on the tires you wanna run. and the gearing you have...for the most part it should be plenty stout..if its not get some dutchman shafts....point is buy it.

on a side not i have a friend w/ a 28 spline 9" w/ mini spool runnin 4.56's and q78's and hes only broken 1 shaft.

definatly a stout unit, not quit a dana 60 but close. If you get it and start breaking axle shafts there are tons of upgrades out there so it can be upgraded to handle whatever you got.

I run the 31 spline with a full spool 4:56's, 38.5 SX's on the street and on the Con all the time. I love it. No problem here. My buddy has a 28 spline 4:11 detroit and 36 SX's He has had his setup on the con for at least 4 years. Only had to replace both axles due to wheel bearing failure (early small bearing housing )

If you can handle the low pinion then do it. It worked fine on my YJ.

It would be a good choice and if need be you can put in 35 spline stuff.

bajg: have you ever had a problem with the hi-9? Lots of people say they're weak as hell. I run 38's on mine and have never had a problem. I don't understand where people get off saying they're weak when nobody I've talked to has broken one or seen it done?! I have 4.1's and 35 spline shafts. It laughs.

31 spline axles are a little stronger than 30 spline axles

I run one on a 78 Bronco, trail weight of more than 6K at times, Detroit, 4:10, 35's, all the go pedal I can give it.

I just finished the conversion of a 9" with disc brakes, 31 spline dutchman axles, 4.86 and a locker. I love it. Many poeple I know have no problems with these. Ya anybody can break them. Everything is bound to break sometime. But this is a tough as hell rear-end. See a post I put up a couple of weeks ago about the diffs' between 9", 60, 70 and 44. Good info in it.

Buy it.
