: TSL vs. TSL Radial... Weight and wear

I'm starting to give a lot of thought to the next set of tires I'm going to run when my 36x12.50 TSLs are going gone. Since I'm at around 30% tread right now... it won't be long.

I'm likely going to move somewhere which may mean a 30 minute-plus commute to work each way, and swampers simply don't hold up. I love TSLs, and the moment this is no longer my DD, it's going back to either a Bogger or TSL. But for now...

How much better do the radials wear?

How much better will they ride? Balancing them is my biggest concern...

How much better does the radial wear? I've been impressed with the way the TSLs have been wearing so far... but this new home may very well mean a long highway commute. So an interco tire might not be in my future at all. I'm just not sure I want to compromise all the way down to a BFG or MT/R.

My 33x12.50 TSL radials lasted over 50k miles and still did not have them worn down to the wear bars...

50K... Damn! I've got exactly the same question; thanks for posting this.

Oh yeah, and what size are these ~36's really?

It was on a relatively lightweight 1990 Toyota truck with 4" IFS lift. I personally drove them to over 43k miles myself, before I was forced to retire one of them due to a gashed sidewall from the trail. I gave them to a buddy, who ran them for another year or so pushing them well over 50k miles, and last I saw them, they were still evenly worn across the tread and were not yet to the wear bars.

I think the main thing is that I kept the air pressure closely monitored for the *best* contact patch on the road, as well as rotating them every 3k miles (easy to do at home) and balancing them 2 times a year.

I'm on my second set of the radials.... With a welded rear, I'm not getting anywhere near 50k... I usually get 2 good years out of a set though.

They are a super soft rubber compound, and not designed to be a high milage tire. If you expect a lot of street driving, I'd look into a BFG mud. They last for ever on the street, which why they suck offroad.

Also siping will help any tire run longer.

True - I was running a rear ARB at the time and obviously unlocked hubs on the road.

How do they do in snow?

Did someone say SNOW? :D :D

They are great in the snow. Every bit as good as a buckshot, except they have a much stronger sidewall. They run really well at low pressure. I go down to 2-3 PSI in the snow without a problem.
