I finally grenaded my E40d this weekend. I found a 89 f250 w/ 351 in the junkyard this morning. I know the EEC will have to be figured out but the question is will the manual 1356 and the ZF mount up with just crossmember and driveshaft mods plus the pedals and sticks? I did a search but didnt come up w/ too much.
Help! Driving a Honda w/ no air sucks

your t-case will bolt right up...assuming the ZF is from a 4X4

The short answer is yes, assuming you get all the right parts. You'll need to swap the shafts and tailsections of the 1356 with the ones already on your truck in order to have a rear flange for the DS. You will definitely need the correct crossmember, and you may need the xfer skid as well.

Where you may run into issues (doing it "correctly" vs hacking it in) is in the wiring. I would try to get as much of the wiring harness from the donor truck as possible. You'll have to rewire portions of the harness for things like neutral safety switches, clutch interlocks, reverse lamps, etc. It would be better to get wiring parts from another '94 (doesn't have to have a ZF, M5OD will work too), just to keep everything plug-and-play.

I think you'll need the computer from a 94ish manual tranny truck in order to avoid problems with the VSS, idle control, and to take advantage of lean-on-decel, etc.

But the trucks are largely modular... it's just a matter of getting all the right parts and not paying too much $$$ for them.

Edit: and whatever you do, don't skimp on the hydraulics. Buy the master cyl and the slave cyl from NAPA or the dealership. You don't want to be replacing that concentric slave very often... PITA.

Oh, and I dunno if a pedal assembly from a '89 would fit a '94. You might have to find one from a later (92+) truck.

Thanks for the info guys. If worse comes to worse I plan on losing the computer and just go with an intake/carb combo. I only get 10 mpg anyway so that is not much of a concern. Yes this will be done correctly. My brother in law builds resto-mods and street rods so there isnt much we cant "engineer" to make it bulletproof. I think my Bronc is going to be down for a while now so doing it right the first time is the plan. Did late 80's 250 and 350 come w/ a D60 up front or a D50? You see where I am heading with this right:D

10 mpg on a truck that is basically stock???

Are you ridiculously leadfooted, or is there something wrong with the truck? (EGR??)

Even my '90 gets 12-14 mpg on 35's... and I spin the hell out of the motor every day.

BTW -- Don't forget about emissions. It won't be long before you'll have mandatory smogging in Hickory, too. I think it's only 2 yrs out. Your carb and intake will not go over well with the inspector.

Yeah I am a leadfoot so that explains that. Need to get it scanned anyway, never has been so there may be some issues there. Not too worried about the smogging because my vehicles are registered in Ashe County up in the mountains (cheaper taxes). Actually I have never had a real inspection. I just go pick a sticker up from on of the local shops we use for mech repair in our autobody business. We do things a little different out here in the country. I pray we do not get CARB laws like those guys in Cali. That crap sucks bigtime. Sclemons, you ever ride Tellico or Uwharrie or Richlands?

Tellico, yes. I'd like to get down to Uwharrie sometime soon for a little shakedown run. It's been a while since the Bronco's been wheeling, and a lot has changed since then.

WTF is in Richlands? VA??

This yard you're talking about doesn't have another ZF laying around, does it? How much $$ do they want for the tranny you're getting?

I'd also remind you how much carbs SUCK on an off-road vehicle. :flipoff2:

Not to start that argument, but I like the EFI... it's not perfect, but it works well enough. :D

Yes they do work on an off road vehicle. Better is an opinion. Ever had to figure out one on a trail? Which wire goes where. Or have the computer get wet. I have and it sucks big time. Honestly I can work on a carbed engine and not on an EFI so that makes a world of difference to me personally.

Richlands is a fire trail that starts right off of 312N like you are headed to Boone. Goes only about 4-5 miles but has some hills that will test roll cages if you screw up. Only about 45 minutes from my house so that is the closest real trails to me. Never have done Tellico but BronkoSkot who posts on here every once in a while rode through it and said it was nuts. I am not ready for that yet I admit.

The ZF is at a boneyard in winston. The smallblock versions are pretty abundant so most yards should have 1 or 2. Family business is autobody repair and we can basicly find any part you want. Body parts especially but drive train components too. And no I cannot find a HP D60 Damnit :flipoff2: No price yet on the ZF should see the guy sometime this weekend. I will let you know if there are any others.

Wow, I know I'm in a different state but that's news to me!
