so after endless spending of paychecks, i think i finally have all the parts to start my sas on my 04 dbl cab tacoma.... here is a list of what i have, am i missing anything?
ifs steering box
front leaf hanger
parts mike hooked me up with a killer hy-steer setup for my waggy axle
front shackles with mounts
rear leaf mounts
rear shackles with mounts
f-250 shock hoops
u-bolt flip kit front and rear
gears front and rear
5'' springs up front w/ 63's in the rear....

thats all the main stuff, but obviously i need to buy power steering hoses, steering shaft(modify the stock one), and figure out the fire wall.... is there anything else that would be necessary to start?

the 5" front springs plus the new front hanger will be taller that the 63"s in the rear unless you want some foot long shackles or blocks, otherwise just be sure to take pics and host them through pirate so all can see them :D

at least pony up for some decent shock hoops, the ford ones are kinda lame and a 4door taco deserves something a little fancier IMO...whos doing the SAS you and some buddies? you forgot the ultimate important ingredient then...please not the pile of aluminum cans behind us as we take a break while doing my SAS...

quality shocks

definitely make or break the truck as far as ride quality on and off the trail...i went from rancho 5000's to 5125 bilsteins on a truck once and it was SERIOUSLY like night and day. skimp on junkyard leafs, but DONT skimp on quality shocks...fox, bilstein, edelbrock, BBCS...no procomp, rancho, etc garbage

make a list of all the little bolt u think youll ever need. nothing sucks more than starting you project and having to stop in the middle cuz t=you dont have the bolt you need and the parts store is closed... also try to read all the other peoples buildups so you get everything welded on rite the first time. cuz i didnt and it sucked.

thanks for all the help... yeah ill have a few friends over and the keg-a-raitor will be used to the extreme... i already bought a set of bilstiens, so that is taken care of for the shocks...

yup, you be lucy to get 2-3" with chevys
get the 5" tg's to match, no rock ancore front mount and equal lift

I have a 1990 4runner with a 99 3.4L 5" tg's rear, swapped to 44044s front cause tg's were too soft..........if you are heavy, think about that

I bought it done, but my buddy did it, we took it out on the road right after the sas f & r leafs and the tg front would botton on bump stops braking at stop signs:laughing: it's good they are soft, but just too soft for my rig, got the bilstiens, it drives better then my 2002 2wd sonoma:)

TG sells a heavy duty version of there spring for v6, heavy winch, etc...a 44044 is only 45.5'' long and dont moved the axle forward via center pin off set?? im not talking shit about those springs, vova has always used him and his truck has worked well since the day i met him...

I don't know, it's in the faq's
he is doing a sas, he can put the hanger anywhere he wants:)

my friend did a sas on a 2000 4runner with the 3.4 like mine and is running the 3in TG in the front and it rides smooth and doesn't hit the bumps or anything.... but if im right, the TG are only a 5 pack leaf. my sky-manufacturing tacoma leafs are a 7 pack and they have the center two inches forward than normal... idk, i can't really tell what its gonna do untill i start it.

oh and i just put new disc brakes and calipers on it last night, so i don't have to worry too much about that

You know you're probably going to need to upgrade the master cylinder too, right?

04 dbl cabs came with larger disc brakes in the front... they also upgraded the master cylinder to a much larger one. i went through that when my friend did his 4runner. mine is much larger than his...

He won't necessarily NEED to upgrade his master cylinder. I'm running a Waggy axle with the stock 98 Taco master cylinder and I have plenty of braking power

ErikB

I'm having trouble believing that. You are going to need bigger than a 1" master for D44 calipers, and Toyota has rarely ever used anything larger. 1-1/16" is the biggest I've seen yet, and its not very common.

What's the bore size for the master then? Its usually cast into the outside somewhere.

In some cases, Toyota has gone with a SMALLER master with a single diaphragm booster and similar or smaller calipers to increase brake force. Tundra for example.

Just trying to help. :flipoff2:

Is your pedal soft? Can you lock up the tires before the pedal hits the floor? I couldn't.

my taco has everything but the limited package and it only had a 13/16'' master and single diaphram booster

mine will definitly lock up before its on the floor. its pretty sensitive and i've been running 33in mtr's with an ifs lift, obviously they aren't 37's, but they're pretty close...

Not soft at all. It'll lock up the tires before it hits the floor. Get this, after doing the swap in my driveway, went around the truck 2 times bleeding everything and it had a firm pedal  I don't know either... Most people have a hell of a time getting their brakes to work

So your truck is swapped already with the D44 up front? If its still IFS, it's no wonder your brakes work killer.

Maybe everyones braking problem is the difference between Waggy and Chevy calipers? I'm using Waggy calipers...

ErikB

Chevy and Waggy are basically identical from the knuckles out.

I guess we'd need more detailed info to make good comparisons. I've helped quite a few people around here get their brakes working better with various setups. I don't know the later models as well and there are more variables than just the master/calipers. I know Paul's rig has a strange linkage going on at the pedal that I've never seen before, and that could definitely change the pedal leverage ratio, etc. AFAIK, we got his brakes working well with his D60/70 and 40's with the suggestions I gave him, but I have no idea how it compares to mine or anyone elses's.

Its likely not going to be "pretty close" to working the same as that when you drop in that 44 and 37's, but it sounds like you've got it all figured out. :D

yeah, i have SERIOUSLY powerful brakes, but every once in a while it does that firm pedal thing with little brake affect, as you continue to mash down on the pedal(sometimes this is an emergency  ) it gives way and returns to normal awesome braking???? i can easily lock up all four and then some...
