: Dodge Question
IH Scout II 08-05-2002, 04:08 PM Got a 79 Dodge Magnum XE, On the way.
My question is this... My intention is to tear out the 360, and install it in a 78 RamCharger. Car is in very straight condition, needs paint.
Am I going to destroy a collector item? It looks to have only about 58000 miles. The carpet and foot pedals even look to be in good shape, UN worn condition.
When the car arrives, I will get more details. Please advise.......
Later.....
GRMhick 08-05-2002, 04:15 PM sounds like you are going to part it out? is this a car or a truck? Quite honestly, there is little value in any of the 70's dodges.. noone seems to want them.. and as such, there is no collector value.. but could it be a collector item.. sure.. just about as much as an all stock 1984 plymouth turismo.

IH Scout II 08-05-2002, 06:05 PM Are the oil pans interchangeable between the 318 and 360?
Is the flywheel interchangeable? And so on.....
Later.....
Pavemen 08-05-2002, 08:33 PM I thought the bolts-ons are mostly interchangable, but the flywheels are different. One is internally balanced and the other is externally balanced.
FULLSIZE 08-05-2002, 10:39 PM oil pans, NO. bigger mains in the 360, radius is bigger. flywheel/torque converter is balanced different also from 318 to 360.;)
MoparMan 08-06-2002, 08:55 AM The 318/360 oil pans are different between the trucks and cars.
Car- center oil sump
Truck-rear oil sump
BTW, is it a 2bbl or 4bbl? Does it have T-tops? What color is it?
Personally I would keep the car the way it is and enjoy it. It's got plenty of potential for power. You won't be able to bore it out much past about .030 because it is has the thin-wall block.
IH Scout II 08-06-2002, 09:12 PM Four barrel, sunroof, Metallic blue, white leather interior, spark control. Vinyl top, well at least the back half.
This is off memory; it has not arrived yet...
More Later....
MoparMan 08-07-2002, 01:11 AM Wow, sounds like pretty decent one. Let us know more when it arrives;)
IH Scout II 08-09-2002, 11:43 AM Well, it was scheduled for delivery last night. But the tow truck driver was to tired. It has been rescheduled for tonight. We will follow up later for you all...

IH Scout II 08-10-2002, 06:36 PM Well,,,,,, It was pretty easy to start, put gas in the tank, and a bit in the carb, and spun it over..... It runs.......
Ok next problem. NOISE..... Sounds like something loose... More of a Knock.. Not real noticeable at idle, but gets louder as rps increase. I don’t feel it is a rod; it is not a consistent knock, but who knows? Some one has put a new fuel pump, and water pump. Is there a possible bolt to long or fuel pump issue that Dodge is known for?
I will say this, it sounds like detonation. This is a ESC motor, is there a possible answer here? RUN ON Knock.... DESIELING...
Does any one have any ideas what it could be?
Any way, I will email pics to any one interested in whole car. Otherwise I will start parting it out to some one who needs it.
Or to some one who is willing to post pics due to my lack of How to.....
The car is 99.9% complete. "Missing headliner" I have done some research, and know that this is vin # J. Moon Roof car, there were only 1395 of these cars made. Worth more complete, and driving.

IH Scout II 08-10-2002, 08:13 PM Need to add, when placed in gear, 90% of the noise is eliminated.
Lets hear the answers from the Dodge Guys...

With your first post i thought it might be too much advanced timing, a too lean mixture (possible vacuum leak), but reading your last post, i suggest you have a look at your torque converter bolts, they might be loose.
