Hey yo;

What kind of MPG does the 88 Suburban get? Also, how well do they perform off-road?

What engine? I would guess 6-12mpg. If you are concerned get a diesel, some of them get up to 18mpg. Burbs do well in mud considering.....

With a TBI 350, you will get about 15 - 16 mpg on the highway. Off road, they are big - long wheelbase, and a huge rear overhang. Otherwise they wheel fine.

My Wife wheels the snot out of her 91. Every one usually is awe struck but its locked front and rear, and with carefull driving fits a lot of places that you wouldn't think that it would without damage

oh yeah, I forgot about that fuel injection thing. 16 sounds kinda high still, definately for a 454.

I have an 83 (same body style) and I've managed to stuff in quite a few places no one ever thought it would go. I love hearing the jeep guys telling each other "it'll never make it", then rolling right past 'em. I've also gotten more than my fair share of thumbs up from peoplw seing the beast on the tougher trails. The burbs climb well due to the wheelbase and the way the weight shifts. On a lot of obstacles, my front wheels will be all the way over and on the flat stuff, while the SWB trucks are having to pull up it. The wheelbase does suck in the tight stuff, and I find my self having to back up and get centered on the line again. You will also drag the belly and the huge rear overhang quite a bit. I spend a lot of my time with my receiver leaving a line behind me. Honestly, I love wheeling the burb. Don't be afraid to use it.

If it has a big block in it dont expect to get more than 12 MPG in it. My dads 87 with TBI 2wd 3/4 ton 454 gets 10-14 on the highway. The chip, K&N and exhaust got him an extra 3MPG and a noticable difference in power.
