I just purchased a hyd. steering assist kit from a buddy of mine that has only used it twice. It is a west texas offroad kit, Anyway, It came off of a 79 chevy 3/4 ton and I am putting it on an 83 chevy military truck. The power steering boxes swapped right out and everything hooked up fine except the high preas line going into the top of the power steering box. Both the lines on each truck have the same fitting and both the boxes have the same hole to put the fitting in. But when I put the high preas line fitting into the power steering box and tighten it down you can still swivel the steering line which tells me it isnt tight. but I cant tighten it anymore. Any suggestions?

Both lines do the same thing or just 1 of them?
Is it the same in both steering gears?
Is it just your line and the new box?

I bet you are dealing with the metric/sae crap

I think that is what he has.
Just get a hose built with the ends you need.

The hose you need is different than the one you have.

And putting a set up from a 79 into an 83, you will need a hybrid hose. Go to the auto parts store and take a look at both hoses, and you will see the difference I am talking about.

Im not sure but I looked at both of the ends of each hose on the different trucks and they look exactly the same. so I am going to try it again in the am, and fill it with fluid and pressure it up and see if the oring will help it to seal up and if not then I guess I will just get a line made. I do know that on the 83 it had a brake booster and the 79 does not.

why not just get a union, cut the hard lines, and install? worked for me.

oh, it only cost about 3 bucks.

I guess it doesnt really matter as long as the line connects point a to point b huh. I just need to make sure to get the right ends. to make the line with.
