I NEED THE PEICE THAT LOCATES THE LOWER END OF THE STEERING COLUM [NOT THE PILLOW BLOCK], MY 71 DOESNT HAVE IT??

ANYONE HAVE ONE THEY CAN SPARE?

someone correct me if i'm wrong but your 71 shouldn't hane it. that's out of a later model cruiser. i'm guessing you are gathering parts for a ps conversion? ifso, just build one ont if some plate ang weld your outer column to it. next you will need a bushing that fits your --- tell you what--- just go to woody's site at IH8MUD.com and have a look see.

I made a "bushing" for my power steering.

Took a plate, hole sawed thru it, cut a piece if tubing at the correct angle and then welded the plate to that, then I slide a chevy leaf spring bushing into it, and slipped the steering column thru it.

Piece o cake!

I ACCTUALLY PLAN ON GOING A DIFFERENT ROUTE THAN WHAT SEEMS TO BE THE GENERAL IDEAS, I DONT WANT TO USE A TEFLON BEARING, AND I CANT AFFORD TO GET A PILLOW BLOCK OUT HERE, SO IM GOING TO GET A PRESS FIT SEALED ROLLER BEARING AND PRESS IS INTO THE COLUMAND THE STOCK SHAFT THRU THAT. JUST NEED TO SUPPORT THE COLUM. OHWELL, GUESS I'LL HAVE TO MAKE THE LITTE FAWKER :rolleyes:

OK_ STOP YELLING! I know what you mean about fabing the small parts but you just didn't give inough information to know for sure where you were going. Sorry if I come off as a smart a$$. I think I have an extra plate to bolt to the firewall. It's just a start but it may work for you. It's 3/16" plate (I think) with the five holes drilled in the right place to bolt to my firewall and an oval hole in the center that you could weld to your outer column. It worked for me but I'm no machinist so don't expect something pretty. If you are going your own way I say more power to ya! Inovation is what it's all about.

I've always found that is the crappy little parts that you can fab up and save big bucks on. That's my feeling. :D If you hate fabbing parts, have fun with the motor swap!! ;) I have never fabbed up so many parts in my life. But at the same time I just can't bring myself to pay huge $$$ for parts I could spend an hour or 2 making.

I put a GM column in my 71. I used the firewall mounting plate from the donor vehicle to support the column. It was included with my used column.

I think I spent like maybe a half hour maybe a little longer on my column, once I figured out what I was gonna do. It sucks, yeah but I just couldn't fork over the money they ask for that crap. I wish I could come up with a cheap, cost effective alternative but oh well. :D
