I just started playing with my torch and I set the pressure and tips according to the chart I have ..heres the thing ,,I start cutting and everything is going good then the cut will stop and its like a certain spot in the metal is tougher to cut than the previous 3-4 inches..it stutters and then trying to get the cut going again it seems that the slag starts to bubble up and the cuts get real choppy..and slag build son the top of the plate

Any help would be appreciated:D

ps I only have about 3 hrs on my set up dang newb

Try using a bigger tip. You are loosing heat. Or go slower with the cut. Other option is to preheat the cut line a bit if you dont have a larger tip.

if I slow up thats when the slag develops??!!I end up having to got back and forth to get the slag to clear away....I am using the appropriate tip for the size plate I'm cutting.but .I Will try the bigger tip

Sounds like you are loosing the cut. When it happens let off on the cutting oxygen, and heat the nearest clean edge on the drop side of the cut until you can start a new cut, then travel forward blowing away the edge of the cut you lost and continue the cut. The sooner you stop the cut when it goes bad, the easier it is to salvage.

You have to carry the stream of oxidized steel, uninterrupted as you're cutting. Too fast and you can outrun it. Too slow and you can loose it because the steel's gone. Jerking around is moving the O2 away from the oxidized area of the cut.

What size tanks do you have?

I used to have the same problem.

Slow yur cut up, and use your oxygen lever. The more you put to it, the less slag build up.

Also clean metal will cut much nicer, old rusty shit wont cut nicely and is a pain in the ass for a begginer. might be worth finding a shop or school and asking the resident old bloke whose been doing it for 50 years to show you the tricks of the trade. its all in the practice, holding the torch, angle hight, speed you move, tip material its more than most people think about it.

if you dont have a set of "wheels" for it get some to use to practice as it will keep the same hight and let you work on your speed
