Hey Guys

Hopefully someone can chime in here.

Please no jokes about the mickey mouse repair idea (its not my car, LOL)

My father in law has a 92 XJ with 140k. The thing runs awesome but it was leaking fluid, he pulled the thermostat housing off and the lower bolt that goes into the head came out with a little piece of the head that was apparently already broke (hence the leak).

It appears that if the hole was drilled a little bigger and retapped it would be fine!

However, he nor I is comfortable drilling and tapping the head and this thing isnt something he wants to dump much $$ into and only plans on having it for another year MAX!

He gooped it up with Blue Smeg and it holds until it gets really hot and then it leaks SLIGHTY!

My question is, if we broke down the waterpump housing and cleaned the crap out of it really good., is there any epoxy we could fill the hole with and then tap it? He feels ok, doing that but not into the head (he's weird).

Any ideas here? Someone said JB Weld, but i havent had much luck with it.

Anyone?

Thanks

Heli-coil

it should be a no-brainer. follow the instructions for installing the heli-coil. when drilling the hole, you will be able to feel the drill bottom out in the existing hole, don't go any deeper. there should be plenty of meat left in the cast head to install the heli-coil.

just about any auto-parts will have heli-coils. i usually get mine at NAPA or Car-Quest. i get the kit that comes with the correct Tap and 5-6 heli-coils and the install-wrench. you'll probably have to get the CORRECT drill bit at a local industrial supply store or hardware store.

if you have any other questions, post them here.
