This made me smile!:D KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
ashmanjeepXJ 10-03-2008, 10:05 PM Your raised Tube rockers, why didnt you run straight tubes down to the frame?
You could get alittle more clearance under the rocker like this. and you add plate to it to slide on.

It's been cut up quite a bit but I was still nervous when it came time go that far.

straight tube was the idea at first but the angle was real steep. would have made for a real long angled cut on the tube to attach to frame stiffener. I probably should have made the lower tubes wider to make that work out better but the way it is seemed like a decent solution to keep going with the pieces I had. Trying to keep down on wasted pieces. Still planning on skinning it eventualy. Hopefully it works out ok.
pipehitter155 10-04-2008, 07:15 AM that thing is tube-tastic...:D:flipoff2:

Good job btw...
natureboynate47 10-04-2008, 06:21 PM thanks for the compliments...:):)
Why not change the front stock coil support for a tube one?
probably gonna put coilovers/air shocks up there next year so I'll have to change it some for that.

do you have an overhead shot of your rooftop? i like the design you did, just want to see it more clearly.
no but I'll take a few. Probably won't be until this weekend. It's already dark by the time I get home from work now.
those 2 a/c condensers for your trans and steering coolers?
no, the bottom cooler is a trans cooler off an '04 F-150 and I don't remember what the other one came off.
1familyxj 11-11-2008, 10:29 PM This is sweet. I can't wait to see more.
natureboynate47 11-15-2008, 07:17 PM the weather around here has turned shitty. cold, rainy, windy makes for bad time workin' outside so we cleaned up a bunch of stuff in the garage to make room to work. Finally starting to wrap some things up. I got everything wired and the motor is running again.
heres some shots of the roof

vintagespeed 11-15-2008, 07:20 PM subscribed. excellent work, keep it coming!
1familyxj 11-15-2008, 07:27 PM I love the looks of the front end, but is there still enough room to pull the engine from the top, or will you have to drop it out the bottom if you have to remove the engine?
RlCHARD CRANlUM 11-15-2008, 07:30 PM What a peach. What are the specs on the tube, and how much did you end up using?
natureboynate47 11-16-2008, 08:02 AM thanks again for the compliments!!!!
I love the looks of the front end, but is there still enough room to pull the engine from the top, or will you have to drop it out the bottom if you have to remove the engine?
no it probably won't come out the top. I could drop it out the bottom, but I hope the need to never comes. If the 4.0 ever self destructs it'll be time to drop in a real motor.:D:D
What a peach. What are the specs on the tube, and how much did you end up using?
tube is 1.75 .120 wall. ended up using 10 sticks with some big pieces left over.
LCGCherokee 11-16-2008, 11:58 AM I am doing almost the same thing, love the way its turning out, on the rear mounted rad, what hoses and pipe did you use to route it to the rear?? Also love the people standing back in the first pic, i had a couple people looking at mine like that...WTF???
Weasel 11-16-2008, 12:10 PM so why did you keep any of the old XJ? Looks like you've just built a buggy around your old drivetrain?
GreatWhiteXJ 11-16-2008, 01:23 PM so why did you keep any of the old XJ? Looks like you've just built a buggy around your old drivetrain?
I think that was the point. Gotta start somewhere right?
Rigs looking sweet Nature....hood and cage work look great!
natureboynate47 11-16-2008, 07:28 PM What hoses and pipe did you use to route it to the rear?????
metal lines are 1.5" conduit, and I got the rubber flex lines from summit. some of the flex lines have different size ends built in to adapt to the tube and radiator.
so why did you keep any of the old XJ? Looks like you've just built a buggy around your old drivetrain?
because I already had the XJ, drivetrain and front suspension worked good, it needed the rear suspenion rebuilt and a cage installed to continue to wheel safely, I have never done any tube work before, if I were going to build a buggy it would have been very different, it would have cost alot more money, it would have taken a very long time, and the list can go on and on.....
I think that was the point. Gotta start somewhere right?
Rigs looking sweet Nature....hood and cage work look great!
thanks:)
Weasel 11-16-2008, 07:53 PM no saying it's bad just wondering thats all. Nice tube work but what XJ left there? I think you just builda buggy..
dumblucky 11-17-2008, 12:18 AM he did not start with a xj , he started with this
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q240/natureboynate47/tube%20work/DSC00004-1.jpg
1familyxj 11-17-2008, 10:13 AM I think it looks great and it is a hell of a lot easier to use the existing firewall and build off of it than it is to start from scratch. This build is :grinpimp: I can't wait to see it finished.
xj_man_646 11-17-2008, 12:08 PM I am liking this build. Are you friends with Joe aka snocross2extremes (sp)? The XJ when it was an XJ looks familiar

xj_man_646 11-18-2008, 02:25 PM HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!! that's hilarous... I wish I could help him but he lives far away
I was hoping you'd say that. I couldn't imagine Joe building something of this quality, hahaha.

xjtony 11-29-2008, 09:48 AM this is bad ass
1familyxj 01-31-2009, 02:52 PM I know you didn't do all of that work to just stop working on this project. What is going on with it? Any updates?

offroadman1973 02-01-2009, 07:53 AM nice tube work. i am planning on doing same to mine when the body gets bashed up! do you have any good pics of the front-top coil spring area?:D---BRIAN
Looks good. How did it turn out or is it still in the works?
RDK_YJ88 02-05-2009, 03:49 PM This project has been done for a while and has been wheeled a few times too! i think he just forgot he posted on this site.

If you know him, remind he posted. I want to see the finished product!
natureboynate47 02-05-2009, 05:19 PM ok so I was in a huge rush to get it drivable so I could go wheelin' before I needed to get the sleds out for the winter and got a little distracted with all the snow we've been gettin'. so heres some updates.....
waited along time for these but it was definately worth the wait
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=207&pictureid=2960
got the links done and threw the air shocks on for some clearance checks tires get a little close to the shock body on the stuffed side when its fully flexed. i'll just have to keep an eye on it.

then loaded up and went for a little test run

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=207&pictureid=2972
that was the short version of the trial runs. it took quite a few and i finally got the shocks tuned in close enough for now.
last time out i broke my first stub shaft since i put the D60 in, it was only a 30 spline. looks like it's time for new shafts and maybe some drive flanges.
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=207&pictureid=2974
still got lots i wanna do but i'll probly end up wheelin' it the way it is for now.
BrassMunkey4 02-05-2009, 06:16 PM http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=207&pictureid=2974
