: exhaust fitment issues

At this point Im considering dropping the cat and replacing it with a muffler. I spent all night trying to figure out how to run the exhaust and the tolerances on the rear 4-link are just too tight. So Ive gotta dump the exhaust at the rear link crossmember and there isnt any room for one. I cant even fit the 5" resonator off the back of an fzj80. Is anybody here running a 3.4 with a muffler and no cat?

You might get a check engine light.

I have a cat.............. on the floor in the corner of the garage! Just run the URD bypass circuit on the rear 02 and you'll be fine.............. it'll be louder than normal so get a quiet muffler. :D

That was one of the big reasons I went with (nearly) parallel upper links. Even so, I spent a hell of a lot of time making it all fit.

You might be able to fit a smallish/flattish muffler over your drive shaft?

I replaced the cat with a 14" magnaflow... its still really loud though. Im thinking about throwing in an exhaust insert with it like the drag guys do.

Those do tend to quiet things down a bit, however they don't exactly last forever. The centersection on mine burned up in about 3 months.

sure cant. coilovers are in the way if I run it there. And if I move it to the left it hits the upper link axle truss.

That's actually the exact one that I bought.

They tell you to put it as clsoe to the header as possible, what they don't tell you is that the last disk will most likely separate from the first two (or three) and take the center tube with it, even if you weld the bejeezus out of the thing so it won't rattle in the pipe. The disks get reaaaal thin where they meet the center tube.

Why not use a couple of shorty mufflers where you'd normally have a straight section of pipe? You might have to dig through some import car sites:barf:

I'm about to add a second resonator to my system in the place of the cat....... that along with the cherrybomb and the super 40 already on there might quite it down enough!

If I add another muffler it would have to be no bigger than 3x8...

I have the same magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 93990 (http://magnaflow.allexhaust.com/product.php?productid=7731?odc1l=93990). Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.
