So i have been lurking around here for a few years now and i have finally started my build. shooting for overkill cause i hate fixing stuff. here's the list of the upgrades.

3link front with 2 1/2" johnny joints and Ballistics fab brackets and tube adapters. using 2" DOM with 1/4" wall. looking at making a bastared pack for right now with my 3.5 leafs and some chevy 63" leafs. will also be using a box-4-rocks to make up for the pass drop.

D70 hybrid front axle with pass drop.
4.56 gears(changing)
lincoln locked(changing to a detriot)
warn hubs
yukon inner and outer 35 spline shafts.

how was the fitment of your brackets? I used their coil buckets and was not impressed with how well they fit together. I had to do quite a bit of grinding on them to make them actually go together before welding. Something I didn't expect, but didn't really mind due to the cost of the brackets. Looks pretty good so far. Plans for unibody bracing/subframe?

Lookin good mang!:smokin: May I recommend 3/8 for the lowers. Wen I ran Rusty's LA I managed to bend the lower link and they are 1/4. If Vette chimes in he can show you wat his 1/4 lower looks like too. He still runs it I think with no immediate problems however Im sure he wishes it were straight.
How wide is the 70? Shortned correct? How wide is your 14? Juss currious.

Depending on how long the lowers are, I would stick at least 3/8" DOM if not 1/2" thick tube on the lowers. Or at least sleeve until you get something thick. I used to have 1/4" lowers on my XJ and after a few years they started to bend. My new truck has 2" dia 1/2" thick DOM lower arms that are 33" long. Good to go so far :D

thanks for the advice and before i bought my steel. so i think i will take you guys up on the advice and get 3/8" for the lowers. i do think that 1/2 is just a little but to much over kill. i do want to be able to pick them up.

as for wms i will double check. i am having a brain fart right this sec. but i am pretty sure the 70 was shortened.

so far the stuff has just been great. i had to have my front axle brackets custom cut to take the 4":eek: axle tubes.

for a sub-frame i was going to sleeve most of it with 3/16 tube. after the rear door i was just going to make my own sleeves.

I went with 5/16 wall DOM and slightly bent the lowers... 3/8ths should stay straight...

I'd also recommend shaving the 70 front...

shaving the 70 is some thing that i have looked in to. right now i don't have a good band saw. i know i could use a cut off wheel but i think i can wait till i get a good band saw.

now did you shave the top of your 14bolt so it would not hit the gas tank? if so that is not a problem of mine. the gas tank is coming out.

Look at that picture again. The axle is upsidedown.

do you have any pic's of the finished thing?

Thats good. I got mine before they started laser cutting anything so I think that was a large part of the fitment.

That sounds like what I did....I think. I sleeved my uni-rails from the stock LCA mount all the way back to the leaf spring mount with 4x6 3/16" cut in half to form 4x3 channel. I also welded 4 nuts on either side for a new trans x-member. I suggest you do the same...well worth the beefiness of 4 1/2" grade 8 bolts on either side holding up your suspension/transmission. From the leaf mounts back mine is sleeved with 3x3x3/16" angle iron. All is working well so far...no complaints yet. Here are some pics of how I did the sleeves.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/xj_man_646/DSC01074.jpg

1" holes drilled for rosette welds throughout. I think 18 on each side between the 3 sides getting welded.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/xj_man_646/DSC01090-1.jpg

Might beef up the plate going between the frame and the main body of the cross-member. I haven't bent it yet but I think it may happen eventually

yeah your jeep is kinda what i am going off of for mine. the only diffrence is in the crossmember. i don't like the idea of having to take my LCA's off ever time i want to drop the t-case. so i am going to do something more like vette's.

sucks i had to work late tonight and tomorrow night but i hope to get more done tomorrow before work. will update more when soon.

I'm pretty sure Vette uses the same concept...or am I wrong? It really isn't that big of a hassle...just gotta put the frame up on jackstands and pull 4 extra bolts. Not very much of an issue for me at all when I did the clutch on the Jeep.

:shaking: You pulled the whole front axle...

You don't have to pull that style crossmember to pull a tcase. Mine is what Vette and XJman's are pretty much based off of.

Meh...I just got sick of crawling under it altogether. I just lift the t-case out from the top now.

Also keep in mind that the last time my t-case was out was Sepember of '07. If you're having to drop the case enough to make it inconvenient then I'd suggest upgrading other stuff first...

Only cause it was just a few more bolts to do it. There is really no reason you HAVE to but I did. Don't even really remember what for..I didn't really do anything that required the front axle to go MIA...I don't think.

At full bump on mine the diff housing is about even with the pan, and the upper link mount is past the pan...

in the first pic of front axle the ram is in the old postion. i sunk the mounts about a inch and pushed it forward about another 1 1/2".

i Still haven't set up my bumps yet. also last night i was tired. i put some RE 7.5 coils in there. i meant to use the 3.5" and a inch spacer till i order new ones.

for the inner lip. i just used a sawzall and cut them out and plated with 1/4"

It's good to see that you working on the beast again and that you have space to work on it. That one car garage was tiny.

THANKS for serving.. :usa:

By the way, I have the D30 out of your XJ on stand by just in case that D70 takes a dump.

I bought the BTF ram mount for my 60 years ago and with about 4.5" of lift and 6" of uptavel I let it fly. It looks like my ram is as high as his and it just clearanced itself:flipoff2: I let some crazy ass girl drive it and she was a fucking lunatic in it so that may have been a contributing factor towards the clearances:D
